Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross: Hybrid Transmission Nightmare

Hey everyone, I'm having some weird issues with my 2021 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Hybrid (97k km). The transmission's acting up, jerky shifts, strange grinding sounds during gear changes, and there's this constant whining noise. The gear display seems off too. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm pretty nervous about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their Eclipse Cross? Would love to hear about reliable mechanics who actually know their way around Mitsubishi hybrids. Thanks in advance!

Hey there, I had similar issues with my 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV last year at around 85k km. The symptoms you're describing sound very familiar, I experienced those exact transmission problems. In my case, it turned out to be a faulty wiring harness that was causing communication issues between the transmission control module and other components. Had this fixed at my local Mitsubishi dealer. The wiring harness needed to be replaced completely, it wasn't something that could be patched up. It was definitely a serious issue that needed immediate attention to prevent further damage to the transmission system. I'd strongly recommend getting it checked at a Mitsubishi dealership since hybrid systems are pretty complex. Regular mechanics might miss something crucial. The dealer's diagnostic equipment picked up the issue right away in my case. Hope this helps point you in the right direction.

Hey, thanks so much for sharing your experience! It's really helpful to hear from someone who went through something similar. I'm curious, do you remember roughly how much the repair set you back? Also, have you had any other transmission problems since getting it fixed? Wondering if I should brace myself for other potential issues down the road.

Hey again! Yeah, absolutely happy to share more details! After seeing your message, I thought you'd be interested to know that the repair worked out great for me. The total bill came to 180€ for fixing the wiring harness, and I'm happy to report that the gear selection display issue was completely resolved too. Honestly, it was worth every penny because the transmission has been running smooth as silk since then. I haven't had a single problem with the transmission in the past year, no more grinding noises, no jerky shifts, nothing! My Outlander PHEV is driving just like new. I know 180 € might seem like a chunk of change, but considering how complex these hybrid systems are, I think I got off pretty lucky. Just keep in mind that getting it fixed sooner rather than later is probably your best bet, these things don't tend to fix themselves, and you definitely don't want to risk any bigger transmission issues down the line. Let me know how it goes when you get yours checked out!

Thanks again for all the details! Just wanted to update you on what happened. I took your advice and went to the Mitsubishi dealership yesterday. You were right about getting it checked quickly! Turns out my issue was similar but not identical to yours, they found a problem with the transmission control unit itself. The repair cost me around 250 €, a bit more than yours but still not as bad as I feared. The mechanic was really thorough and explained everything clearly, which was such a relief after my previous bad experiences. Got to drive it home today and wow, what a difference! No more weird noises or jerky shifts. It's running super smooth now, almost like when I first bought it. Definitely glad I didn't wait any longer to get it fixed. Really appreciate your help in pointing me in the right direction. You saved me from probably making things worse by going to a regular mechanic. Thanks again!
