Mini Roadster Transmission Issues

I am experiencing some rather disconcerting behavior from the automatic transmission in my 2014 Mini Roadster. Specifically, the shifting feels implausible, the transmission indicator light is illuminated, the automatic transmission is not shifting as usual and it seems to be stuck in emergency mode. Could worn car transmission oil be the culprit, and could this be related to a slipping transmission?

Slipping transmission on a Mini Roadster with that kind of mileage? First things first, have you checked the transmission fluid level? When was the last time the transmission oil was changed? If it's been a while, that's definitely the first place to start. Also, is the car throwing any error codes besides the transmission light? Knowing those codes could point us in the right direction.

Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't checked the fluid level myself, to be honest. I don't recall the transmission oil ever being changed on my Mini Roadster. Regarding error codes, could undervoltage in the vehicle trigger the transmission light, and cause such transmission problems?

Okay, not changing the transmission fluid on your Mini Roadster with that mileage is a red flag. Old fluid can definitely cause those symptoms – the implausible shifting, the light, everything. And yes, undervoltage can mess with the electronic controls of the transmission, causing it to act up. Honestly, I'd take it to a trusted workshop. Get the transmission oil replaced and have them check the electrical system for any voltage drops. It's likely those two things are connected.

I appreciate the insight. It turned out you were spot on. I had the transmission oil replaced, and they found an undervoltage situation as well. The total bill came to 240€, but the Roadster is shifting smoothly again. Thanks again!
