Mini Roadster knocking combustion issue

I am experiencing what I believe to be knocking combustion in my 2013 Mini Roadster. Symptoms include reduced engine power, jerking during acceleration, and visible smoke upon acceleration. An error code is also stored in the error memory. Based on my research, I suspect deposits in the combustion chamber. Could this be a reasonable assessment, or should I consider other potential causes such as issues with the cylinder heads?

That sounds eerily familiar. I had a similar problem with my Mini Roadster. Reduced power, jerking, and even some smoke. Have you checked your ignition timing? What fuel octane are you using? Detonation can cause those issues, and it is related to combustion chamber problems. It might be worth investigating before you tear everything apart.

Thanks for the quick response. I was indeed suspecting a combustion chamber issue. When you say you had a similar problem, do you mean it was also due to deposits in the combustion chamber? Did you observe any error codes? What was the solution in your case?

Yes, in my case, the issue was also heavy carbon buildup in the combustion chamber. The error codes were similar. Initially, I tried some fuel additives, but they didn't fully resolve the problem. Ultimately, I had to take it to a workshop for a professional cleaning of the combustion chamber. If you are not comfortable doing it yourself, I would recommend consulting a mechanic. At least they can confirm the diagnosis.

The issue was traced to significant deposits in the combustion chamber as suspected. The mechanic performed a thorough cleaning, and the Mini Roadster is now running smoothly again. The final bill came to 425€. Thanks for your help. It was very useful to confirm my suspicion before going to the workshop.
