Mini Roadster Headlight Range Control Fault

I am experiencing a rather perplexing issue with my 2012 Mini Roadster diesel. The error memory stores a headlight range control fault, and the speedometer displays a warning light. The primary symptom is that the low beam shines either too far down or too far up, making nighttime driving rather hazardous. Based on my research, the most likely cause appears to be a defective servomotor within the headlight assembly. Has anyone encountered a similar problem, and if so, what troubleshooting steps did you take before resorting to a complete replacement?

I had a similar issue with my Roadster. The headlight beam adjustment was completely off. First thing I'd check are the electrical connectors to the headlight switch and the servomotor itself. Are they clean and properly connected? Sometimes a little corrosion can throw everything off. Does the light intensity change at all?

Thanks for the quick response! I did inspect the connectors, and they appeared to be clean and securely attached. I didn't notice any obvious corrosion. Regarding the light intensity, is there a specific test or observation I should be making? I haven't paid particular attention to that aspect. The error message just states a headlight range control fault.

Yeah, that sounds exactly like what happened to mine. After checking the connections and confirming power to the servomotor, the workshop determined the motor itself was faulty. Unfortunately, it wasn't a serviceable part. The whole headlight unit needed replacing. I'd suggest getting it checked out professionally to confirm, but it does sound like you're on the right track.

Just wanted to update on the resolution. It turned out to be exactly as suspected: a defective servomotor within the headlight unit. The entire repair, including parts and labor, came to 1040€. A bit steep, but at least the Mini's lighting system is functioning correctly again. Thanks again for the advice!
