Mini Roadster Engine Stalling and Ventilation Issue

My 2012 Mini Roadster has developed a rather annoying issue. The engine light illuminated, and it occasionally stalls at idle. Diagnostic codes point towards a tank ventilation valve malfunction. I've a hunch that the hoses are clogged, restricting proper function of the EVAP system. Has anyone encountered something similar?

Sounds like a classic EVAP system issue. I had similar symptoms – engine light and idle stalling – in my old Volvo. The purge valve was the culprit. Have you checked the gas cap? A faulty seal there can also trigger the engine light due to pressure leaks in the emission system.

Interesting. Did the Volvo also throw specific codes related to the tank ventilation valve? I'm seeing P0441 and P0444. When you mention purge valve, are you referring to the solenoid valve controlling vapor flow from the charcoal canister?

Yes, those codes align with what I experienced. And yes, I was referring to the solenoid valve from the charcoal canister. Given the age and mileage, a cracked or brittle hose is a very plausible cause. However, pinpointing the exact leak can be tricky without proper equipment. I would suggest a smoke test to confirm the source of the leak. If you cannot do it by yourself, better have a professional check the whole emission system.

Update time. You nailed it. I checked all the hoses associated with the EVAP system and found a cracked one. Replaced it, cleared the engine light, and the stalling issue is gone. Total cost was 175€ for the hose and a new gas cap, since mine was looking a bit suspect. Thanks for the assist!
