Mini Paceman transmission oil temperature sensor issue

I am seeking insights regarding a potential transmission oil temperature sensor malfunction in my 2016 Mini Paceman diesel. The symptoms include illumination of the engine warning light, error codes stored in the memory, gearbox emergency mode, slippage, and unclean gear shifts. Could a low transmission oil level genuinely be the root cause, or are further diagnostic procedures advisable?

Sounds suspiciously like the issue I had with my Paceman. Was getting some rough gear shifting and the occasional warning light. Have you checked the transmission oil level? That sensor is known to throw a fit when the oil gets low, kinda like a smoke detector when the battery is dying.

When you experienced similar symptoms, did the problem persist even after topping off the transmission oil, or was a sensor replacement necessary? Did you also experience overheating problems, or grinding noises when shifting gears?

In my case, simply topping off the transmission oil didn't resolve the issue entirely; the warning lights persisted intermittently. Since you mention grinding noises, I'd strongly advise against driving it further and recommend a workshop inspection to rule out any mechanical damage to your automatic transmission. Best to be safe than sorry.

I appreciate you sharing your experience. Your comments were decisive in my decision making. It turned out the transmission oil level was indeed critically low, triggering the sensor fault. The repair, including a transmission oil change and sensor check, amounted to 365€. All appears to be running smoothly now.
