Thanks for the quick reply! I did check the fuses, and they all seem to be fine. Is there anything else besides a defective heating element that could cause this? Are there any relays or temperature control modules involved that might be faulty?

Okay, since the fuse is fine, and you are getting an error, it does sound like the heating element itself is the culprit. Unfortunately, there's not much else to check without specialized equipment. Think of it like a light bulb that's burned out. Time for a replacement. If you want to save some money, you could try replacing the mat yourself, but it can be fiddly. If you're not comfortable with that, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop for a heating repair specialist.

Update on the seat heater situation: I ended up biting the bullet and getting it sorted at a local workshop. Turns out the heating element in the seat was indeed kaput, just as suspected. Total damage was 390€, which stings a bit, but at least my backside will be toasty warm this winter. Thanks for the advice, it steered me in the right direction!

That sounds frustrating! I had a similar issue with my Mini Countryman. The seat warmer just wouldn't heat up. Have you checked the fuse for the seat heater circuits? It's a simple thing, but often overlooked.
