Mini Paceman Low Brake Fluid and Spongy Pedal

Thank you for your response. I understand the system is closed, which is why I'm concerned about the fluid loss. Before bringing it in, how can I differentiate between a leak and the brake pads simply wearing down?

Worn pads do lower the fluid level in the reservoir, but only slightly. A significant drop indicates a leak. The pads wear, the pistons extend further, and fluid fills the void. If you are experiencing significant fluid loss accompanied by soft pedal feel, you likely have a leak somewhere in the hydraulic brakes. Check all the lines, including the rear ones. The rear lines are often overlooked but corrode easily. You should take it to a workshop.

I appreciate the detailed explanation. As suspected, the brake inspection confirmed worn pads and a minor leak in a brake line, leading to the fluid loss. Repair cost came to 480€. Thank you for your insight.

Low brake fluid and spongy pedal feel often go hand in hand. It's a closed hydraulic system, so where did the fluid go? Have you checked for any visible leaks around the calipers, brake lines, master cylinder, and even inside the car near the pedal? Is the brake fluid warning light illuminated on the dashboard? A proper brake inspection is the next step.
