Mini Paceman Engine Issue

I am writing to inquire about a potential issue with my 2013 Mini Paceman, model year 2013, with a diesel engine and approximately 73636 km on the odometer. The check engine light has illuminated, and I've noticed a reduction in engine power, accompanied by smoke during acceleration. Based on my preliminary diagnosis, I suspect a crankcase ventilation malfunction. Has anyone experienced similar issues with this model?

I also drive a Mini Paceman with a diesel engine, and I experienced similar symptoms not too long ago. The check engine light illuminated, and I observed reduced engine power accompanied by smoke upon acceleration. Could you please check the crankcase ventilation system? In my case, there was a clear leak. It was as if the engine was trying to breathe through a straw with a hole in it. Do you observe a similar leak?

Thank you for your quick response. I will check the ventilation system for leaks. Did your Paceman also show increased emissions due to the malfunction?

Yes, the emissions were definitely elevated, which I learned during the mandatory vehicle inspection. That's how the mechanic discovered the root cause, which was indeed a defective crankcase ventilation. Replacing the valve resolved the issue. I recommend that you visit a workshop; they can measure the exact emissions. I hope my experience can help you.

Thank you for the information. I took the Paceman to a workshop and, as suspected, the crankcase ventilation valve was defective. After replacement, the engine runs smoothly again. Total cost was 360€.
