Mini Paceman Diesel Starting Issues

My 2016 Mini Paceman diesel is giving me some grief. It struggles to start, and the engine power seems reduced. I scanned for errors, and it points to a defective camshaft sensor. From what I've read, a possible cause could be a faulty cable or plug connection. Has anyone experienced similar issues? Any advice on what to check before replacing the sensor? I'm getting engine misfire, rough idling and sometimes the engine is stalling.

That sounds awfully familiar. I had something similar happen with my Mini, though I can't recall the exact year. Experienced rough idling and some engine misfire especially on cold starts. The camshaft sensor was the culprit for me, too. Before replacing anything, have you checked the wiring and the plug connection to the sensor? Sometimes it's just a loose or corroded connection causing the issue.

Interesting, so the symptoms you experienced were primarily rough idling and engine misfire? Did you also notice any loss of power or the engine stalling completely? And regarding the wiring, is there a specific area I should focus on when inspecting the connections to the camshaft sensor?

Yes, rough idling and occasional engine misfire were the main symptoms. It felt like the engine was stumbling, especially when cold, like an athlete with a stitch. Loss of power was noticeable, although the engine never stalled completely. Regarding the wiring, concentrate on the connector itself and the section of the wire harness closest to the sensor. Check for any signs of damage, corrosion, or loose pins. If you're not comfortable doing this yourself, it might be best to have a workshop take a look. It could save you some time and potential headaches.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I took it to a local workshop, and they confirmed it was a faulty camshaft sensor, likely due to a loose connection as you suggested. They replaced the sensor, and the engine now runs smoothly. Total cost was 95€. Appreciate the help!
