Mini Paceman Diesel Cold Start Issues

I'm at my wit's end with my 2014 Mini Paceman Diesel. I'm experiencing poor engine running during cold starts, and my fuel consumption has increased. The error memory indicates a PTC heater problem. I suspect the electric auxiliary heater is defective, but I'm not entirely sure. Could this be the reason why the heat is not working as expected?

I experienced something similar with my Mini. The symptoms you describe, particularly the poor engine running during cold starts and the higher fuel consumption, point towards a faulty PTC heater. Have you checked the electrical connections to the heater? A loose connection can sometimes cause similar issues. Also, is the temperature control functioning correctly, or are you consistently getting cold air?

Thank you for your response. I checked the electrical connections, and they seem to be fine. The temperature control seems to be working, but it takes a very long time for the cabin to heat up, and the engine still runs poorly during the cold start phase. Did you also have an error code stored in the error memory? Was the heat not working at all?

Yes, I had the same error code. The heat was barely working, especially during the initial phase. Given that you've already checked the connections, and you still have the same symptoms, it's highly likely that the electric auxiliary heater is indeed defective. In my case, replacing the heater resolved all the issues. I would recommend taking your car to a workshop for a proper diagnosis and repair. It sounds like you're on the right track, and a new heater should solve the problem.

Thank you for the information. I took my Mini Paceman to the workshop, and they confirmed that the electric auxiliary heater was indeed defective. The repair cost me 350€. Now my heating system is working perfectly, and the engine runs smoothly from the start.
