Mini One Diesel Jerking and Stalling

I'm at my wit's end! My 2016 Mini One diesel is giving me headaches. It's jerking when accelerating, the check engine light is on, and it's stored an error in the memory. Engine power is down, it sometimes stalls at idle, runs rough, and there's a strong exhaust smell. Could this be related to a defective intake manifold? I suspect the intake manifold might be leaking due to scorching. Any thoughts on this? Or the manifold pressure maybe?

Whoa, sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my Mini One (although it's an older model). Jerking, rough idling, the whole shebang. Did you check the manifold sensor? A faulty manifold sensor can cause those symptoms. Also, have you looked for any obvious signs of a gasket leak around the intake manifold? A simple visual inspection might reveal something.

Thanks for the quick reply! Where exactly is the manifold sensor located, and what should I be looking for in terms of a gasket leak? I'm not super mechanically inclined, but I'm willing to take a look myself before heading to the workshop.

Okay, so the manifold sensor is usually bolted directly onto the intake manifold itself. It's a small electrical component with a connector. As for the gasket leak, look for dark, grimy buildup around where the intake manifold connects to the engine head. It'll often be oily and attract dirt. Honestly, with all those symptoms, it does sound like a leak in the intake manifold. Given the potential cost of messing things up, I'd seriously consider getting it checked out by a workshop. Could save you money in the long run.

Thanks a million for your help! It was indeed the intake manifold. The workshop confirmed it was leaking due to scorching. Cost me a pretty penny, 1180€, but the Mini One is running smoothly again.
