Mini jerks and engine light comes on again and again at certain intervals

Hello everyone, my 2015 Mini Cooper Diesel shows the following problems: Check Engine Light on, engine stops by itself, loss of power, rough engine running, strong exhaust smell and vibrations at idle. I suspect a problem with the EGR valve. Have any of you had similar symptoms and can tell me about your experiences, especially how the garage solved the problem? Thanks in advance!

Hey, I had similar problems with my 2017 BMW 1 Series diesel. I also had the Check Engine Light on, loss of power and a rough engine running. My EGR valve was defective or stuck. I only have some experience with cars, so I took the car to the garage and had the valve replaced for 355 euros. After that, everything ran perfectly again. Which model variant do you have exactly? Then maybe I can give you some more tips. Greetings

Hey, thanks for your tip. My Mini Cooper Diesel has 217654 km on the clock and was last serviced 5000 km ago. I hope it won't be too expensive a drama. Would like to know how long it took you to replace it and whether any other parts were checked or replaced? LG

Hey, don't worry, I completely understand your concern. On my BMW 1 Series Diesel, replacing the EGR valve in the workshop took about half a day. Most of the time was spent diagnosing and removing the defective part. The workshop also checked the hoses and connections around the valve to make sure everything was tight. Fortunately, no other parts had to be replaced in my case. However, when checking the EGR valves, it is always advisable to also clean the intake ducts and, if necessary, the intercooler, as these components could also be affected by the deposited soot. I hope this helps you and that the costs will be kept within reasonable limits! LG

Hey, thanks for the detailed information! It's a bit reassuring to know that it only took half a day and that there weren't loads of other parts to replace. I'll definitely suggest your tip about the intake ducts and intercooler to the garage when I take my Mini in next week. Let's hope for the best and that the costs remain manageable! Let me know when it's all done. LG

Hello I wanted to replace the EGR valve on the Mini, but it's so difficult to get to. Is there perhaps a video you can watch to make it easier for me? Everything is so tightly fitted in the vehicle. Many thanks

Sure, there are many tutorial videos available online that can guide you through the process of replacing the EGR valve on a Mini Cooper. You can find these on platforms like YouTube. However, please remember that if you're not comfortable or experienced with car repairs, it's always safer to have a professional mechanic handle it. Also, keep in mind that working on the EGR system can expose you to harmful gases. Always wear protective gear and work in a well-ventilated area. Let us know how it goes or if you have any other questions.

Hi. I need to install a new EGR valve on mini countryman 16 dci 2015. I have to connect computer to car so the valve will open a bit so I can install it. Does Carly let me do this.

Carly is primarily used for diagnostics and coding, but it might not have the specific functionality to control the EGR valve position during installation. You may need a more advanced diagnostic tool or software that allows for actuator tests or component activation. If you're unsure, it might be best to consult with a professional mechanic or use a tool specifically designed for this purpose. Let me know if you have any other questions or need further assistance!
