Mini Countryman Overheating

Okay, I'm hoping someone can help. My 2023 Mini Countryman is overheating. I've noticed it mostly in stop-and-go traffic. The temperature gauge creeps up pretty quickly. I suspect it's something with the electric fan because I don't always hear it kick on. I'm thinking maybe a bad cable or plug somewhere in the cooling system, especially near the radiator fan. I’m dreading a huge repair bill, but I was quoted around 95€ as a potential cost for fixing the connector. Any thoughts or similar experiences?

Vehicle overheating at that mileage could point to several issues. Is the radiator fan running at all? Have you checked the coolant level? A faulty fan clutch could also be at fault although less common in modern vehicles. Look specifically at the fan motor and relay.

Thanks, that's helpful. When you say 'relay', where exactly would I find that, and is there an easy way to test if it's gone bad without special tools? Also how can I check the fan clutch on this model?

Relay location will be in the owner's manual or a diagram near the fuse box. Swapping with an identical relay is an easy test. Fan clutch is unlikely on a model with an electric fan. Given your symptoms and suspected cause, a defective cable or plug connection of the component is plausible. A workshop visit is advisable.

Just wanted to update you. You were spot on! Took my Mini Countryman to a local mechanic, and it turned out to be a corroded connector on the radiator fan. They cleaned it up and everything's running cool again. Total cost was about 95€ as suspected. Thanks again for the help!
