Mini Countryman error messages and error lamps

I'm having a real headache with my 2016 Mini Countryman diesel. It's got km on the clock and lately, I've been getting sporadic error messages and illuminated error lamps while driving. It's like the car's possessed! Sometimes the audio or navigation just dies, or a control unit just becomes unresponsive. I have had a error memory read out. It showed several failures, and the shop said the issue is likely a defective cable connection to the BUS system. Does anyone recognize these symptoms? It's driving me insane!

Sounds like a CAN bus issue. When the warning signal appears, does your scan tool show any specific control module throwing errors? Could be a loose connection or a failing module.

What exactly is a CAN bus? And what do you mean by 'control module throwing errors'? I'm not super techy. The malfunction indicator light comes on sporadically, but I don't know how to check what's causing it.

The CAN bus is basically the car's central nervous system, allowing all the different control modules like the radio, navigation, engine management, etc to communicate. 'Throwing errors' means a module is reporting a problem to the car's computer, which then might trigger the malfunction indicator light. Given the sporadic nature and the error codes pointing to the BUS system, and that you're seeing failures in various systems, a defective cable connection is very plausible. I still recommend a professional diagnosis to confirm.

Just wanted to give you a heads-up. The garage confirmed a defective cable connection to the BUS system as the culprit. They sorted it out for 155€. Thanks for your help!
