Mini Cooper Stalling at Idle

Alright, I'm pulling my hair out here. My 2009 Mini Cooper is giving me fits. It's got about km on it. The check engine light is on, and it keeps stalling at idle. It also feels like the engine power is way down. I recently changed the fuel filter, and I'm wondering if that's the culprit. Could a defective fuel pressure regulator cause these issues? Maybe the error entry happened after the fuel filter change? I'm also concerned about worsening fuel efficiency.

Whoa, that sounds rough! I had something similar happen with my Mini Cooper too, although I'm not sure if it's exactly the same. Mine was acting up after I replaced the fuel filter. I noticed a pretty significant pressure drop and the car would stall sometimes. Could be worth checking the fuel rail pressure to see if it's within spec. Is it possible the fuel filter replacement triggered something?

Interesting! You mentioned a pressure drop – how did you check that? And what exactly did you end up doing to fix it? I'm wondering if I should just bite the bullet and take it to a workshop.

Yeah, I was getting pretty frustrated too! I checked the pressure with a fuel pressure testing kit, but honestly, I'm not super confident in my readings. I ended up taking it to a workshop. They confirmed it was the fuel regulator and replaced it. I'd say, if you're not 100% sure, it might be worth getting a professional to take a look. Could save you a lot of headaches!

Just wanted to let you know I got it sorted. Turns out it was the fuel pressure regulator, like you said. Cost me about 45€ for the part. Fuel efficiency seems back to normal, and the rough idle is gone. Thanks again for the help!
