How quickly did you notice the problem after the maintenance interval was exceeded?

The dark brown, almost black oil color is a definite red flag. It does sound like you've exceeded the maintenance interval. In my situation, the symptoms appeared gradually over a couple of weeks after I was due for an oil change. Given the oil color and the warning lights, I would recommend getting it to a workshop as soon as possible to prevent potential engine damage. They will likely recommend an oil change and a new oil filter at a minimum.

Alright, just wanted to give you an update. Took my Mini Cooper to the shop, and you were spot on. Seems I totally spaced on the maintenance schedule. They said the oil was pretty sludgy and the oil filter was a mess. Cost me 165€, but at least it's sorted now. Thanks a bunch for the advice, really appreciate it.

That does sound concerning. I had a similar scare with my Mini Cooper. The oil pressure warning lamp lit up on mine as well. Have you checked the oil color? In my case, it was dark and thick, which was a clear indication of oil sludge. When was the last oil change performed? It sounds like you may have exceeded the maintenance interval. Think of your engine oil like the blood in your veins; if it gets too thick, it can't do its job properly. Neglecting regular oil changes can lead to serious engine damage, so it's crucial to stay on top of it.
