Could you elaborate on the fuel octane rating and the cylinder head carbon buildup? What were the specific symptoms you observed?

Certainly. Low octane fuel can cause premature detonation, leading to knocking. Carbon buildup increases compression and creates hot spots, also triggering detonation. My Peugeot exhibited similar jerking and power loss. A thorough inspection, including the combustion chamber, is advisable. It might be time to consult a workshop.

I appreciate the insight. The issue was indeed significant carbon deposits in the combustion chambers, leading to engine knock. A professional cleaning was performed at a cost of 425€. The Mini Cooper is now performing optimally.

That sounds awfully familiar! I had a similar experience with my old Peugeot. It turned out to be premature detonation. Have you checked your fuel octane rating? Also, excessive carbon buildup on the cylinder heads can cause such issues.
