Mini Cooper engine trouble

Alright, I think I'm losing my mind! My 2009 Mini Cooper is acting up. It only has a gasoline engine, but it's starting poorly, fuel consumption is way up, and there's a noticeable loss of power. Plus, the engine stalls at idle and idles unevenly. I'm suspecting a defective injection nozzle, maybe just dirty. Anyone else experienced this?

Whoa, that sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my Mini, though I can't remember the exact mileage. Stalling at idle and rough starts sound VERY familiar. I initially thought it was a diesel issue (mine's a gasoline engine too), but the symptoms were similar to what I'd experienced with a bad batch of fuel. Have you checked for any error codes?

Error codes? Nothing popped up on the dash. Did yours throw any codes, and was it definitely the injection nozzle? How did you diagnose it? I'm trying to avoid just throwing parts at it, especially with the fuel consumption being so high now.

No error codes on mine either, which was super frustrating! My mechanic scoped the injectors and found one wasn't spraying properly. He suspected a dirty injection valve. Honestly, given the symptoms, I'd recommend getting a professional opinion before messing with the fuel system yourself. Could save you a lot of hassle and money in the long run!

Turns out the injection nozzle was indeed defective. The mechanic confirmed it was likely due to dirty gasoline. Replacement set me back 515€. Ouch! But the engine runs like new now, emissions are down, and no more stalling. Thanks for the advice!
