Mini Clubman Rear Window Heating Issue

My 2013 Mini Clubman is giving me grief with the rear window heating. It's not working, and there's an error code stored. Also, the windshield heating isn't performing as it should. My guess is a heavily discharged or defective battery. Any ideas before I start chasing wires?

I had a similar issue with my Mini Cooper. The rear window heating wasn't functioning, and the auto defrost wasn't kicking in properly. From my experience, such problems are often related to the electrical system. Have you checked the battery's condition or had it tested recently?

Interesting. I haven't had the battery specifically tested, but the car starts without issues. Could a seemingly functional battery still cause problems with the rear window heating coil?

Yes, absolutely. A weak battery can cause all sorts of electrical gremlins in modern cars. The rear window demister and windshield heating draw a significant amount of power. If the battery isn't providing sufficient voltage, they might not function correctly, even if the car starts fine. I recommend getting the battery professionally tested. If it's weak, replacing it might solve the problem. If not, a workshop should check the wiring to the heating coil.

Took the Clubman to the shop. Turns out the battery was indeed the culprit. They replaced it, cleared the error memory and the rear window heating is working fine now. Cost me 290€ in total. Thanks for the heads-up!
