Interesting. By software reset, do you mean just disconnecting the battery? I've read about that potentially clearing error memory, but I was hesitant without knowing if it could cause further issues with the control unit.

Yeah, disconnecting the battery is what I meant. But if you're worried about messing things up more, and you've already got error codes popping up, maybe best to avoid it. It sounds more serious than what I had. I ended up taking mine to a workshop. They did a full software update, which I guess is a more thorough software reset. Honestly, I'd suggest getting it checked professionally.

Just a quick update. The Mini dealer confirmed the control unit programming was indeed implausible. They performed a software update, which included a recalibration. Everything seems to be functioning normally now. Thanks for your input.

Whoa, electrical gremlins are the worst! I had something similar happen in my Mini, though it wasn't the diesel version. My nav system went bonkers, and the onboard diagnostics threw a code. Did you try a simple software reset? Sometimes that clears up a software bug. Basically, disconnect the battery for like, 15 minutes and see if it helps.
