Thanks for the quick reply. When your exhaust sensor went bad, did you experience any issues with the engine performance, in addition to the smoke? And how did you specifically diagnose the exhaust sensor as the culprit? Did you use an OBD reader?

Yeah, definitely noticed a drop in engine performance. It felt like the car was struggling, especially when accelerating. I didn't have an OBD reader myself at the time, so I took it straight to the workshop. They ran the diagnostics and confirmed it was the exhaust sensor. They said it's a pretty common failure point and affects vehicle emissions, so you might want to do the same.

Just wanted to update you. I followed your advice and took my Mini to the workshop. They confirmed it was the exhaust back pressure sensor. Replaced it, and the warning light is gone, the smoke is gone, and the DPF is regenerating again. Total cost was 245€. Thanks for your help!

Sounds like a similar problem I had with my Mini Cabrio. Was also getting some smoke and the engine felt sluggish. Have you checked the exhaust sensor itself? It's a pretty common issue on these, and relatively cheap to fix. Could be worth a look before you start tearing into anything major. When the sensor went bad on mine, it threw off the whole emission control system.
