Mini Cabrio check engine light and water sensor issue

I am experiencing a rather troubling issue with my 2013 Mini Cabrio, the diesel version. The check engine light is illuminated, and the error memory indicates a water sensor malfunction. Additionally, the engine is running somewhat rough. My initial suspicion, based on some research, is that it could be a defective cable or plug connection on the component. Could anyone offer some insights or suggestions?

I had a similar issue with my Mini. The rough running and the check engine light are definitely annoying. Have you checked the cable and plug connection to the moisture sensor? In my case, that was the electrical fault.

Yes, I read something similar in the error memory. But could you be a bit more specific? Where exactly is this moisture sensor located, and is it something I can check myself without special tools?

It's located near the air intake. While you could check it, it's probably best to leave it to a workshop. The diagnostic tools can pinpoint the exact issue. It sounds like it's probably just a bad connection, but best to be sure.

Thank you for your advice. I took my Mini Cabrio to the workshop, and it turned out to be exactly as you suggested: a faulty connection on the moisture sensor. The auto electronics were quickly repaired, and the malfunction indicator is off now. The total repair cost was 95€. Thanks again!
