Jetta Warning Lights & Signal Failure: Fix Guide

Thanks for checking. Just to update, I had my last service at 93277km, but the flickering got worse since then. The workshop actually quoted me 180€ for a full signal lamp replacement including labor, which seems steep. The flickering only happens during turn indication, and the error code reads P0854. The broken lens near the turn indicator suggests moisture might have damaged the electrical connections. Checking the connections as suggested revealed significant corrosion around the bulb holder. Wondering if a simple lamp replacement might fix it, or if I should tackle the full wiring harness repair? The electrical fault warning on the dash is definitely concerning.

Having faced the same issue on my Golf, I can confirm that corrosion around the bulb holder often leads to more extensive damage than just a faulty turn signal lamp. The P0854 code typically points to a communication issue in the electrical system, which matches my experience. The quoted 180€ for a complete signal lamp replacement actually makes sense given what I encountered. While I initially hoped for a simple bulb replacement to fix my flickering turn indicator, the moisture intrusion through the broken lens had already caused considerable wire harness damage. In the long run, opting for the complete repair proved more cost-effective. When I tried just replacing the lamp, the electrical fault warnings persisted, and the turn signal continued to malfunction intermittently. The corrosion had spread further into the wiring than visible from the outside. Based on the similar symptoms and especially with visible corrosion, you should consider: Full signal lamp assembly replacement, Wiring harness inspection and repair, Weatherproofing to prevent future moisture damage This will likely resolve both the electrical fault warnings and prevent further system degradation. The flickering during turn indication suggests the issue extends beyond just the lamp itself.

Thanks for the advice. After weighing the options, I think I'll go ahead with the full 180€ repair. The corrosion around the bulb holder seems pretty bad, and I dont want to risk just doing a basic lamp replacement only to have the electrical fault warnings continue. My previous experience trying quick fixes on electrical issues usually meant paying twice, once for the temporary fix and again for the proper repair. Since the broken lens is already letting moisture in and the wiring shows damage, it makes sense to address everything properly. I'll schedule the signal lamp replacement and have them check the full wiring harness while theyre at it. Better to fix it right the first time than deal with ongoing electrical faults. Will update once the repair is done to confirm if it resolved both the flickering and the dashboard warnings.

I dealt with nearly identical electrical faults on my 1998 VW Golf, sounds exactly like what you're describing. The indicator light problems and erratic speedometer behavior had me worried at first. After taking it to a workshop, they diagnosed a faulty flasher relay and damaged wire connections near the front indicator assembly. The wire insulation had worn through, causing intermittent shorts. The repair involved replacing the flasher relay and repairing the compromised wiring harness. Total cost was 95€ for parts and labor. The automotive lighting system worked flawlessly after the fix, and all electrical fault warnings cleared from the dashboard. What specific error code is stored in your system? Also, does the flickering happen only when indicating, or is it constant? This information would help determine if you're dealing with the same electrical fault I experienced. Before spending money on repairs, you might want to check: All bulb connections for corrosion, The flasher relay mounting for secure fit, Wiring near the headlight assembly for obvious damage Let me know the error code and I can share more specific details about the repair process.
