Insignia Tailgate Won't Open: Hall Sensor Issue?

Hi all, having issues with my 2019 Vauxhall Insignia diesel. The tailgate won't open automatically, and there's a warning light on the dash. I suspect it might be the Hall sensor on the tailgate playing up. Has anyone dealt with something similar? What was the fix, and how much did the repair cost at your workshop? Thanks in advance for any insights!

I have some experience working on cars, and I dealt with a similar issue on my 2017 Vauxhall Astra diesel last year. The automatic tailgate stopped working completely, and it turned out to be a faulty cable in the wiring harness. Took it to my local Vauxhall specialist, and they diagnosed it pretty quickly. Total bill came to 95 Euro for the repair, which included labor and the new cable. What's the mileage on your Insignia? Also, does the manual release still work? These details would help me understand if you're facing the exact same problem I had. My advice would be to get it checked by a professional since electrical issues can be tricky to diagnose on your own.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! My Insignia's at 186635 KM, and yeah, the manual release still works fine, it's just the auto function that's giving me grief. Had my last service about three months ago, and everything was working perfectly then. Your Astra situation sounds pretty similar to what I'm experiencing. £95 doesn't sound too bad for the fix, definitely beats having to replace the entire mechanism. Might give my local Vauxhall specialist a call tomorrow and see what they think. Really appreciate the help!

Hey there again! Yeah, after hearing about your mileage and symptoms, I'm even more convinced it could be similar to what I experienced with my Astra. Just to add to my previous response, after I got mine fixed, I learned that these wiring issues are actually quite common in Vauxhalls around the 150-200K km mark. The constant opening and closing eventually takes its toll on the wiring harness. In my case, the warning light showed up about a week before the auto-function completely packed in. The fact that your manual release is working (just like mine did) is actually a good sign, means the mechanical parts are probably fine. Quick tip from my experience: when you take it to the specialist, make sure they check the entire wiring harness, not just the obvious connection points. In my Astra, the break in the cable was actually hidden under some protective covering, and they almost missed it at first. Let me know how you get on with the specialist. Fingers crossed it's the same straightforward fix I had!

Thanks a lot for the detailed follow-up! That's really helpful info about the wiring issues being common at this mileage, makes total sense now. I'll definitely mention about checking the entire harness when I take it in. Just called my local specialist and got an appointment for tomorrow morning. It's actually quite reassuring to know this is a common issue with a relatively simple fix. Was getting worried it might be something major! Will keep your tips in mind and make sure they do a thorough check of all the wiring, especially under that protective covering. Thanks again for all your help and sharing your experience, really appreciate you taking the time to explain everything in detail. I'll update you once I get it sorted!
