Honda Jazz Misfire Mystery: unusual Power Loss & Stalling

Hey everyone! Having trouble with my 2011 Honda Jazz (101k km, gasoline engine). The engine's been acting up lately, cutting out unusually, losing power, and running really rough. There's a nasty exhaust smell too. The check engine light came on and the diagnostic showed misfiring. Had a mechanic look at it before but wasn't happy with their service. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms? Would really appreciate recommendations on what could be the issue and potential fixes. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had very similar issues with my 2014 Honda Civic (1.8L gasoline). The symptoms you're describing match exactly what I experienced, unusual power loss, rough idling, and that strong fuel smell from the exhaust. In my case, it turned out to be a faulty fuel injector. I initially thought it wasn't serious until my mechanic showed me how the bad injector was causing uneven fuel spray, which explained the misfiring. The repair involved replacing two injectors and cleaning the other ones. It's definitely not something you want to ignore, faulty injectors can lead to bigger engine problems if left unchecked. My mechanic mentioned that contaminated fuel or regular wear and tear can cause injector failure. After the fix, my car ran smooth again, and the exhaust smell disappeared completely. I'd suggest getting a second opinion from another mechanic who specializes in fuel injection systems. It's a fairly common issue that needs proper diagnosis and repair.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! That's really helpful, and it does sound exactly like what I'm dealing with. It's good to know I'm not alone with these symptoms. I think I'll definitely look into getting the injectors checked out based on your advice. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much the repair set you back? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other issues pop up?

Hey again! Happy to give you an update! Just had my car checked last week actually, and I'm glad to report that after fixing that faulty injector, all those annoying misfires completely disappeared. Ended up paying 515 Euro for the whole job, which included replacing the defective injection nozzle. Honestly, while it wasn't cheap, it was totally worth it considering how smoothly the car's running now. The best part? No more rough idling, no more power cuts, and that nasty exhaust smell is completely gone. It's been running like a dream since the repair, just like when I first got it. Haven't had a single issue pop up since then. My Civic feels like a different car now, in a good way! If you're still on the fence about getting it fixed, I'd say go for it. Those symptoms won't fix themselves, and you really don't want to end up with bigger engine problems down the road. Trust me, your car will thank you for it!

Thanks for the follow-up! I actually just got back from a new mechanic who specializes in fuel systems. You were spot on, it was indeed the fuel injectors causing all the trouble. Two of them were completely clogged, and the others needed a good cleaning. The repair cost was similar to what you paid, but honestly, I'm just relieved to have my car running properly again. Took it for a test drive after the fix, and what a difference! No more stuttering, no more weird smells, and the engine's purring like a kitten. It's amazing how replacing something relatively small can make such a huge impact. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it helped me push for the right diagnosis instead of continuing to worry about what it could be. Now I can finally enjoy driving my Jazz again without constantly watching the check engine light or worrying about breaking down!
