GMC Sonoma SRS Light Fix: Airbag Warning Explained

Just had my 85905 KM service done last month. My issue got resolved by an SRS system diagnostic scan that revealed a faulty sensor in the passenger seat. The car safety system was showing the warning due to a worn-out wire connection leading to the seat sensor. Repair cost was 375 Euro total including parts and labor. The restraint system is now working perfectly with no warning lights. Since these components are critical for airbag deployment, having a certified tech do the work was worth the cost. No recalls were involved in my case, it was just normal wear on the wiring. The SRS light has stayed off since the repair.

Great to hear you got it resolved. That 375 Euro repair cost is actually reasonable considering the complexity of modern restraint systems and importance of proper airbag deployment. My Canyon had similar wiring issues, though mine was caught earlier before the seat sensor itself failed. For reference to others reading, these seat sensor issues often start with intermittent SRS light warnings before becoming constant. The vehicle safety system is designed to err on the side of caution, which is why even minor wiring problems trigger warnings. The service interval timing makes sense too, around 85k is when many vehicles start showing wear in the seat wiring harness due to constant movement and temperature changes. My repair shop mentioned they see quite a few similar airbag sensor issues around this mileage. Have you noticed any improvement in the seat position sensors or seat belt warnings since the repair? In my case, fixing the wiring also resolved some occasional false seat belt warnings I had been getting. Keep monitoring that SRS light, if it reappears, you will want immediate attention since the initial repair addressed the root cause.

Thanks for the information about the seat sensor and wiring repair. No other issues have come up since having it fixed, all airbag system components and warnings are working exactly as they should. The seat position sensors and belt warnings are also functioning normally now. The vehicle safety inspection after the repair showed everything in the restraint system is communicating properly. According to the technician, replacing both the worn wiring and faulty sensor was necessary to prevent the SRS light from returning. For anyone else facing similar issues, dont ignore these warning lights hoping they will go away. The airbag repair cost me 375 Euro but knowing the safety systems are fully functional gives real peace of mind. My suggestion is to have a certified shop diagnose any SRS warnings as soon as they appear.

Had the same issue with my 2019 GMC Canyon last winter. I have some experience working on cars but restraint system problems are best left to professionals since they directly impact safety. The crash sensor warning light in mine was caused by a loose connection in the wiring harness under the passenger seat. The airbag sensor system is pretty sensitive and even minor connection issues can trigger the warning light. Took it to a certified shop where they ran diagnostics on the airbag sensor system. They found a damaged plug connection that was causing intermittent communication errors with the restraint system control module. Total repair cost was 95 Euro for diagnostic work and fixing the connection. For your specific case, would you mind sharing: Have you had any water damage or spills near the seats? Did the light start after any interior work was done? Does the light stay on constantly or flicker? Have you checked for active recalls on your specific model? This info would help determine if your issue is similar to what I experienced with my Canyon. Car safety systems are complex and its important to address warning lights promptly.
