GMC Acadia Throttle Response Issues Impact Performance

My GMC Acadia 2011 is struggling with power lately and the check engine light just came on. The car feels sluggish, especially when accelerating. Engine idling seems normal, but there is a noticeable response delay when pressing the gas pedal. Shop previously mentioned it could be the throttle valve. Anyone dealt with similar symptoms and can share what the actual issue was? Running on gas with 51231 km.

I encountered similar symptoms with a GMC Terrain 2014. The throttle body was indeed the root cause, but the issue was more specifically the electronic throttle control system. The main symptoms matched exactly: sluggish acceleration, response delay when pressing the gas pedal, and normal engine idling. The vehicle eventually went into limp mode after a week of ignoring the warning signs. The problem stemmed from carbon buildup on the throttle body, which disrupted proper air flow and sensor readings. The throttle position sensor was also malfunctioning, causing incorrect signals to be sent to the engine control module. The repair required throttle body cleaning, recalibration, and replacement of the electronic throttle control module. This was a serious issue that needed immediate attention, as continuing to drive could have led to complete power loss or engine damage. A professional diagnostic confirmed the problem through the check engine code P2135, which indicated a correlation error between throttle position readings. The fix restored proper throttle response and resolved all performance issues.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Had almost identical issues with my 2012 Acadia. The check engine light and poor response really had me worried. After cleaning and recalibrating the throttle body, the air flow improved significantly but the sluggish acceleration persisted. Turned out the air intake system also needed attention, with a clogged filter affecting engine performance. Could you share what the total replacement cost was for your repair? Also wondering if youve had any recurring issues since the fix?

After getting the complete diagnosis from my mechanic, the main culprit was actually the accelerator pedal module rather than just the throttle body issue. The total replacement cost came to 265 Euro for parts and labor, which included fixing the defective throttle valve electronics. Since the repair, the throttle response has been perfect with no recurring issues. The limp mode and sluggish acceleration completely disappeared. My throttle sensor readings are now consistently accurate, showing the repair was definitely worth the investment. The air intake system checkup was also part of the diagnostic process, but fortunately mine was clean and functioning properly. Its good you caught the clogged filter issue on your vehicle, as proper air flow is critical for engine performance. Looking back, getting it fixed promptly prevented any potential long-term engine damage. The engine idling is now smooth, and the acceleration response is as responsive as when the car was new.

After reading your story, I finally took my Acadia to the shop last week. The mechanic found both a faulty throttle body and a clogged air filter, just as expected. The total replacement cost came to 340 Euro which included parts, labor, and a thorough system cleaning. The throttle body replacement made an immediate difference. The check engine light went off, and the response delay when pressing the gas disappeared completely. Engine idling is now perfect and the acceleration feels strong again. The mechanic also showed me the old air filter which was heavily clogged with debris. They mentioned regular filter changes could have prevented some of these issues. Good thing I didnt wait longer, as they found early signs of carbon buildup that could have led to more expensive repairs. The car now runs like new. No more sluggish performance or hesitation. Definitely worth every cent spent on the fix.
