Giulietta Diesel Stalling Points to Fuel System Failure

Looking for advice with fuel system issues on my 2017 Giulietta diesel (62k km). Car runs really rough and loses power, especially when accelerating. Engine stalls at idle and check engine light is on. Last mechanic visit wasnt great, so worried about getting ripped off again. Previous diagnostics pointed to a rich mixture problem. Anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Wondering if its the fuel injection system or something with the oxygen sensor. What should I watch out for when taking it to a new shop?

Had similar symptoms on my 2014 Alfa Romeo MiTo diesel. The check engine light came on, rough running, and power loss pointed to injection problems. Diagnostics confirmed a rich mixture condition caused by a faulty injector. The injector was sticking open, dumping excess fuel into the cylinder. This threw off the air-fuel ratio and eventually affected the catalytic converter due to unburned fuel. The oxygen sensor readings were all over the place because of the incorrect mixture. It was a serious issue requiring immediate attention since bad injectors can cause: Engine damage from fuel washing cylinder walls, Catalytic converter damage, Increased emissions, Further fuel system complications When getting it checked, request: Full diagnostic scan with injector performance test, Fuel pressure testing, Oxygen sensor data readings, Smoke test to verify no vacuum leaks Good shops will show you the diagnostic data and explain their findings. They should also check related components like fuel pressure regulator and fuel pump while troubleshooting. Worth getting fixed properly as neglecting injector issues leads to more expensive repairs down the line.

Thanks for sharing your MiTo experience. Mine turned out to be similar, troublesome injector that messed up the air-fuel ratio. The oxygen sensor was giving wild readings because of all that excess fuel. Was wondering, do you remember roughly what you paid for the full repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix? Just want to make sure there arent any lingering fuel injection issues to watch out for on these Alfas.

The repair bill came to 515 Euro for replacing the faulty injector and the car has been running perfectly since then. The rich mixture problem completely disappeared after fixing the defective fuel injection valve. The mechanic correctly diagnosed the issue using diagnostic equipment that showed the problematic air-fuel ratio readings. Not having to deal with a stalling engine or poor acceleration anymore was worth every cent. The catalytic converter fortunately hadnt suffered any permanent damage from the rich fuel mixture. No lingering fuel injection problems in the past 8 months. Just make sure to use quality diesel and change fuel filters according to schedule. Getting those injectors fixed quickly really prevents more expensive issues from developing. These Alfas are actually quite reliable once the fuel system is working properly. Regular maintenance keeps the spark plugs clean and injection system healthy for the long run.

When I finally got my Giulietta looked at, it cost me 580 Euro for parts and labor to fix the faulty injector. The throttle body also needed a good cleaning since the rich mixture had left quite a bit of carbon buildup. Found a great independent shop that specializes in fuel injection systems. They showed me the diagnostic readings from the oxygen sensor and explained exactly why the air-fuel ratio was off. Really appreciated their transparency, such a different experience from my previous mechanic. Car is running beautifully now for the past 2 months. No more stalling, full power restored, and fuel economy is much better. Think I caught it just in time before any serious damage occurred to other components. Still keeping an eye on the engine performance, but so far everything points to a properly fixed fuel system. Way less stressful knowing I finally got it sorted properly. Definitely worth paying a bit more for a shop that actually knows what theyre doing with these engines.
