Eclipse Cross Battery Problems: Sensor Issue Alert

Hey all, having issues with my 2022 Eclipse Cross. Battery seems weak during start-up, and I've noticed lights dimming/flickering. I suspect it might be related to the battery sensor, but not 100% sure. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms and gotten it fixed? Would love to hear what the actual problem was and how your mechanic resolved it. Any input helps!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2020 Mitsubishi ASX (Outlander Sport in some markets). I've got some experience working on cars, though I mainly stick to basic maintenance. The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I dealt with. My car would struggle to start, and I noticed the same dimming lights. Initially thought it was just an old battery, but turned out to be a faulty battery sensor microprocessor. Got it fixed at my local Mitsubishi dealer about 6 months ago, cost me around 315€. Before I can give more specific advice, How old is your battery? Are you getting any warning lights on the dash? Does it happen more often in cold weather?

Thanks for the detailed response! My battery is fairly new, replaced it about 8 months ago at my latest service. The issue started happening recently, and yeah, I've noticed it gets worse in cold weather. No warning lights on the dash yet, which is kind of weird. I'm currently at 126566 KM and was wondering if this might be a known issue at this mileage? Really appreciate the heads up about the battery sensor microprocessor, that's definitely something I'll have my mechanic check out. I might bite the bullet and take it to the Mitsubishi dealer since it sounds like they know how to handle this specific problem.

Hey again! Thanks for those extra details about your Eclipse Cross. Yeah, I totally get what you're going through, my ASX had pretty much identical symptoms, and it's interesting that you're also seeing it worse in cold weather, just like I did. The mileage you mentioned (126566 KM) is actually pretty close to when my issues started, I was around 115000 KM when my battery sensor started acting up. It's kind of a common thing with these Mitsubishi models, especially in colder climates. Since you mentioned your battery is only 8 months old, I'm even more convinced it's the sensor issue. When mine went bad, I actually wasted money on a new battery first before figuring out it was the sensor microprocessor. The lack of warning lights doesn't rule it out either, my ASX didn't show any warnings until things got really bad. I definitely recommend going to the Mitsubishi dealer for this one. My local mechanic actually couldn't diagnose it properly at first, and I ended up at the dealer anyway. The dealer has the right diagnostic tools for these newer models. Plus, they might even have updated parts since I got mine fixed, they mentioned something about a revised sensor design when I was there. Keep us posted on what you find out! Would be interested to know if it's the same issue I had.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! It's really helpful to know that you had such similar issues with your ASX, especially around the same mileage. You've honestly saved me from potentially wasting money trying other fixes first. I've just booked an appointment with my local Mitsubishi dealer for next week, figured it's better to go straight to the source since they seem to know these sensor issues well. I'll definitely update this thread once I get it checked out. Really appreciate you taking the time to explain everything in detail, especially about the cold weather connection and the lack of warning lights. Fingers crossed it's just the sensor microprocessor and nothing more serious! Thanks again for steering me in the right direction!
