Thanks for sharing your experience, that's really helpful! My symptoms sound exactly like what you went through with your Boxster. I'm leaning towards getting it checked at a specialist now. Would you mind telling me roughly how much you ended up paying for the DME replacement? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other quirks?

Hey again! Yeah, I'm happy to share the details about the costs. The total bill came to 625€ for fixing the faulty DME unit in my Boxster. I know it's not cheap, but honestly, it was worth every penny. The car's been running like a dream since the repair, no more cutting out, no more rough running, just smooth sailing all the way! I took it to the specialist about 8 months ago now, and I haven't had a single engine control issue since they sorted it out. The car starts first time, every time, and the engine's running as smooth as it should. No more check engine lights either, which is a huge relief. Trust me, getting it fixed by a proper Porsche specialist was the way to go. They knew exactly what they were looking for and got it sorted properly the first time. Your Cayman symptoms sound so similar to what I experienced, so hopefully this gives you a good idea of what you might be looking at cost-wise. Let me know if you need any other info!

Just wanted to update everyone on my Cayman situation. I took your advice and found a reputable Porsche specialist in my area. Turns out you were spot on, it was indeed a DME issue! Got it fixed last week and the difference is like night and day. The total cost came to about 680€, a bit more than what you paid, but still worth every cent. The mechanic was super professional and walked me through everything they were doing. It took them about two and a half days to complete the job, but what a transformation! The car's running perfectly now, no more cutting out, starts every time, and the engine's purring like it should. Such a relief to have this sorted! Really appreciate everyone's help and advice here. If anyone else runs into similar issues with their Porsche, definitely don't hesitate to get it checked by a specialist. Lesson learned, sometimes paying a bit more for expert knowledge saves you headaches in the long run! Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!

I had similar issues with my 2014 Porsche Boxster last year. The symptoms were almost identical, engine cutting out, rough idle, and sporadic starting problems. Turned out the DME (engine control unit) was failing. Got it diagnosed at my local Porsche specialist, they found corrupted software and some damaged internal components in the DME module. Had to get the unit replaced and reprogrammed. It was a serious job because the DME is basically the brain of the engine management system. The repair took about two days, but it fixed all the issues completely. Haven't had any problems since then. Definitely recommend finding a certified Porsche specialist for this kind of work, they have the right diagnostic equipment and expertise. These symptoms aren't something you want to ignore, as they can lead to bigger problems if left unchecked.
