DPF Related Issues in 2020 Nissan Evalia: Symptoms and Potential Solutions

Hey folks! I'm driving a 2020 diesel Nissan Evalia with over 152k on the clock, and she's been giving me some issues. I suspect it's related to the DPF as the remaining mileage is running short. I've noticed black smoke on acceleration, a persistent check engine light, and a dip in power. To top it off, there's a pungent exhaust smell and increased noise, plus the DPF regeneration seems to be failing. Had a rough time with a mechanic before, so I'm a bit hesitant. Anyone else experienced similar troubles? What happened when you took your ride to the mechanic? Appreciate any advice!

Hey, I feel your struggle! I was in the exact same boat as you with my 2017 Nissan Qashqai. My girl was showing the same symptoms: black smoke, check engine light, a drop in power, and that unmistakable stink and noise. Turned out it was a fault with the DPF. The mechanic stated that it was internally defective and the regeneration process was failing. In layman's terms, the DPF had a bunch of soot it couldn't get rid of and was choking up. Regarding the work they had to do, they replaced the DPF and the related sensors. It was a bit of an undertaking, not gonna lie. It's pretty invasive work as they had to open up a good part of the engine to get to the components. It's definitely not something you want to delay, as it could have serious repercussions on your engine if left unfixed. Hope this helps with your situation! Don't hesitate to take it to a trusted garage – your ride will thank you.

Hey there, really appreciate you sharing your Qashqai DPF drama. Sounds to me like my Evalia is kicking up the same fuss. To be honest, I was thinking it could be an internal defect with the DPF causing the regeneration fail. Glad to hear I'm not just shooting in the dark. I think your experience has nudged me over the line to get it sorted, rather than pushing it out any further. I'll count myself lucky if it's just a DPF replacement and a few sensors. Not an easy thing to swallow, but it sure beats risking the whole engine! If you don't mind me asking, do you remember approx how much you had to cough up for the fix? And has it been smooth sailing since or did anything else creep up later on? Cheers!

Hey, you nailed it on checking out the DPF. After I went to the mechanic, things turned around for the better. The DPF was indeed internally defective as we assumed. My pocket took a bit of a hit, though - had to shell out 1550€ to get it fixed. But hey, peace of mind is priceless, right? Since then, the remaining mileage running short issue has been put to rest. My Nissan's back on full steam and so far, no new shenanigans have shown up. Let's just say the black smoke, engine noise, and that wretched exhaust smell are now tales of the past. Go for it, and get that DPF issue sorted. Cheers!

Thanks a ton for putting my mind at ease. Glad that you managed to turn your situation around. Yours is an encouraging story indeed. A bit unnerving to consider the cost, but I absolutely understand where you're coming from. For a peaceful drive, that price is not too steep. Sounds like it must be a great relief not having to worry about that black smoke, horrid exhaust smell and that darn engine noise anymore! In any case, I'll definitely be taking your advice and get my Evalia checked out. Thanks again for sharing your experience and the wisdom that came with it. Hopefully, I'll be reporting back with good news soon. Take care and wishing you many more smooth rides ahead! Cheers!
