Discovery Battery Issues: Sensor or Something More?

Thanks for sharing that detailed info! That's really helpful. My Discovery has been well maintained (last service was at 151907 KM), but I've actually noticed the check engine light flickering occasionally, especially during cold starts. The electrical glitches seem worse in the morning, and sometimes the infotainment system takes longer to boot up too. Your battery sensor diagnosis sounds spot on, I'm guessing the repair cost would be similar these days. Did you have to wait long for the parts when you got yours fixed?

Hey again! Yeah, those symptoms, especially the flickering check engine light and slow infotainment boot, are exactly what I experienced with my Range Rover Sport. The morning starts were particularly annoying, right? When I had mine fixed, I was lucky with the parts, they had them in stock and the whole thing took about half a day. But I've heard from others that parts can sometimes take 3-4 days to arrive. The microprocessor for the battery sensor isn't always readily available. One thing I forgot to mention in my previous reply, before getting it fixed, I also noticed my audio system would sometimes reset out of nowhere while driving. Did you experience anything like that? After the battery sensor replacement, all these little electrical gremlins disappeared completely. Just make sure when you get it fixed, they run a full diagnostic on the electrical system. My mechanic did that and found a couple of minor issues with the alternator connections too. Got everything sorted in one go, and it's been running like a dream for the past year and a half. Let me know how it goes when you get it fixed, would be interesting to see if your repair experience matches mine!

Yeah, thanks so much for all this info! Actually, I've been having those exact audio system issues too, it's been resetting during drives, which is super annoying when I'm listening to something good! Really relieved to hear all these problems disappeared after you got the battery sensor fixed. I'll definitely get that full diagnostic done when I take it in. It's good to know about the alternator connections too, might as well get everything checked while they're at it. I've called a few workshops and found one that has the parts in stock, so hopefully won't have to wait too long. Got an appointment for next week. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it's made me feel much better about getting this sorted. I'll let you know how it goes after the repair! Here's hoping my Discovery will be running as smoothly as your Range Rover soon.

Hey! I've got some experience with these issues, as I work on my own cars for basic maintenance. Had a similar problem with my 2018 Range Rover Sport (also had a 2019 Velar before). The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I dealt with. I took mine to the workshop after the battery kept acting weird, same flickering lights and sluggish starts. Turned out the battery sensor microprocessor was shot. Total repair was around 315 Euro, but it fixed the problem completely. Haven't had any issues since. Quick question though, has your check engine light come on at all? And have you noticed any other electrical glitches besides the lights and starting? This info would help me share more specific details about my experience.
