Dead Power Windows After Mechanic Visit on Audi SQ8

Thanks for explaining the initialization procedure. I went through similar steps with my SQ8 last month when the car window switches stopped working. Unfortunately the reset did not fix it and I had to get the main window regulator replaced. Would you mind sharing what the repair ended up costing in your case? Also curious if you experienced any other electrical glitches since getting it fixed. My window controls have been working fine now but occasionally get a unusual car electronics error on startup that goes away on its own.

After taking my S7 back to the shop, they found the window regulator initialization issue was actually caused by a faulty battery. The window reset procedure I suggested initially did not work because the battery was not holding proper voltage to power the window controls correctly. The repair involved replacing the vehicle battery which cost 290 Euro including labor and programming. Since the battery replacement and proper window initialization, all window switches and window motors have worked flawlessly. The window regulator system has not shown any error messages or startup glitches. Your unusual electronics error could indicate a voltage issue. When window controls act up along with other electrical quirks, it often points to power supply problems rather than just window regulator failure. Might be worth having your battery checked even though your window controls are working now.

Thanks for the advice. Just to close this out, I took the car back to the dealership and turns out it was more than just an initialization problem. They found a damaged wire harness in the door that was causing intermittent power window failures. The window motor and car electronics were fine, but the harness was pinched during a previous repair, slowly degrading the connection to the window controls. Total repair came to 380 Euro including diagnosing and replacing the wire harness. All window functions are working perfectly now and no more unusual error messages. Main lesson learned was to have them thoroughly check all door wiring when dealing with power window issues, not just assume its a programming or window regulator problem.

Had a similar power window issue on my 2016 S7. After battery service the window controls stopped responding completely. This is a known electronic initialization problem with these models. The power window system requires proper initialization after any battery disconnect. Without correct initialization, the window regulators enter a safety mode and stop functioning. The error message you are seeing is a direct symptom of this. The fix requires a specific window initialization procedure: 1. Turn ignition to ON position 2. Press and hold each window switch until fully closed 3. Continue holding each switch for 2 seconds after closing 4. Lower each window completely 5. Raise windows again and hold for 2 seconds If this procedure does not resolve the window troubleshooting, the window motor or regulator may need diagnostic scanning. The window initialization is a critical step mechanics must perform after any battery work. This is typically not a serious mechanical issue, just a programming reset requirement. A qualified shop with proper diagnostic tools can usually resolve this without parts replacement. Make sure they document the initialization procedure in case this occurs again after future battery services.
