Dacia Sandero Diesel '08 Experiencing Engine Trouble; Possible EGR Valve Issue?

Hey! I've got a bit of a pickle with my '08 Dacia Sandero Diesel (26,514 KM). She's been acting up lately - check engine light is on, she cuts out unusually, there's a major power loss and the engine is far from steady. To top it all off, I've got a seriously potent exhaust smell and she shakes when idle. I'm guessing there's something fishy with the EGR valve. Had a nasty episode at a mechanics last time, so naturally, I'm a bit on edge about taking her in. Anyone out there had a similar experience? How'd you sort it out? Any mechanic recommendations? Cheers!

Hey, sounds like deja vu to me. I had a similar issue with my '05 Dacia Logan Diesel last year. My Beastie had just about the same symptoms - that check engine light, unusual stalling, power loss - you name it. And yup, you're bang on the money, it turned out to be a faulty EGR valve. Stuck, if I remember correctly. Had to get my baby into the garage. The job required a hefty amount of work, as the valve itself is tightly fitted in the engine bay. So, first things first, they had to remove the air intake pipe and other bits to get access. Then, cleaning the clogged up EGR valve was somewhat a task and finally, they replaced it with a new one. Since, it's a bit of a serious issue especially if the EGR valve is causing engine stalling as the valve controls the engine's emission and cylinders' firing pattern. I'd recommend getting your girl checked out professionally. Maybe ask around or google a well-reviewed mechanic in your vicinity? Good luck with your Sandero, hope it all sorts out soon. Cheers!

Hey, thanks for sharing your insight. Your scenario sounds a lot like the ordeal my Sandero's giving me - major deja vu! The EGR valve sounds like a tricky business though, hope it won't prove too much of a nightmare to sort out. By any chance, do you recall how much dosh you had to shell out to get your Logan back in shape? And has anything else disturbing presented itself since you got the EGR valve fixed? Just trying to gauge what I might have in store. Cheers!

Howdy there! You're spot on - fixing that pesky EGR valve wasn't exactly a walk in the park, but at least the outcome was worth it. She's been running pretty smoothly since then, no dodgy lights or power loss nonsense anymore. Now, talking about the wallet damage - it did stray a bit north of what you'd call bargain. The whole shindig set me back by about 355€. Granted, it's not spare change, but for the peace of mind and having my Logan purring like a kitten again, I'd say it's money well spent. Since then, touch wood, no other creepy-crawlies have decided to pop up. I can tell you, it's been a relief! I'd seriously recommend biting the bullet and getting your Sandero checked out. Better safe than sorry, right? Hope your girl gets back in shape soon. Good luck!

Hey there! Thanks for coming back to me with that. Your Logan's recovery gives me hope. I reckon, given your experience, it's about time I took the plunge and made peace with parting some cash. 355€ does seem rather steep but I suppose when it comes to car repairs, it's all part and parcel of the game. And more importantly, it's the peace of mind you can't really put a price on, isn't it? Sincerely appreciate your advice it's been beyond helpful. You've definitely put my mind at ease about this whole EGR valve business. Fingers crossed my Sandero's snags aren't any more complicated than yours. Should have it seen to soon enough. Cheers!
