Crossfire Power Windows Failure, Common Fix Guide

Having issues with my 2003 Crossfire power windows. None of the window controls are working and the car displays an error code. The window motor seems to respond occasionally but then fails completely. I suspect a faulty window regulator but would like to confirm before replacing parts. Has anyone dealt with this problem? What was the actual cause and repair cost in your case? Looking for input especially from those who had it fixed at a shop. Did you need the entire window control mechanism replaced or was it just a component?

As someone with moderate experience working on cars, I had a similar issue with my 2001 Chrysler Sebring. The window control system completely failed, showing error codes and inconsistent window motor response. After taking it to a repair shop, they diagnosed a faulty window control module in the driver side door. The window regulator and window track were actually fine, but the power window switch was the root cause. The automotive repair technician explained that these switches often fail due to internal wear and moisture exposure. The total repair cost was 200€, which included parts and labor. The window motor started working perfectly after the switch replacement, and all error codes cleared up. To better assist with your specific case, could you share: Are all windows affected or just specific ones, Does the issue occur with both the driver controls and individual door controls, Can you hear the window motor trying to work when pressing the switches, Have you noticed any moisture damage in the door panels This information would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced or if its something different in the window control system.

Last service at 168215KM. The power windows problem seems different from yours. In my case, the window regulator motor still makes a grinding noise when activated, suggesting mechanical failure rather than an electrical switch issue. Got a second opinion from a repair shop. Diagnostic check revealed the regulator motor assembly needs replacement. They found metal debris in the window track, indicating internal component failure. The door panel inspection showed no moisture damage or wiring issues. All windows except the passenger side are affected. The complete repair quote was 450€ including parts and labor for the regulator replacement.

Thanks for the update on your Crossfire window situation. Your symptoms definitely point to a different issue than what I experienced with my Sebring. The grinding noise and metal debris are classic signs of a failing window regulator assembly, unlike my simpler switch problem. The 450€ quote for the regulator motor replacement sounds reasonable. When my window control issues first started, I also heard unusual noises, but they were more electrical clicking than mechanical grinding. The fact that your passenger window still works supports the diagnosis of failed regulator assemblies rather than a central electrical problem. The metal debris you mentioned in the window track is particularly concerning, this can cause additional damage if not addressed soon. While my repair was straightforward with just a switch replacement, your situation with multiple window regulators requires more extensive work. For the windows that are affected, make sure the repair shop cleans out all metal debris from the tracks when installing the new regulators. This will prevent premature wear on the new components. From my research after my own window issues, damaged regulator motors often spread debris throughout the door panel, which can cause problems down the line if not properly cleaned.

The grinding noise from the window motor and metal debris definitely confirm the shops diagnosis of failed regulator assemblies. My case seems more severe than a basic switch failure like you had with your Sebring. The 450€ quote makes sense given the extent of repairs needed. The window mechanism will require full replacement on three doors, and cleaning out all that metal debris from the window tracks is critical to prevent future issues. Going to schedule the repair next week. Will have them thoroughly clean the door panels and tracks while replacing the window regulators. Better to fix it properly now than risk more damage or complete failure of the remaining working window. Thanks for sharing your experience, even though your issue turned out to be different, the comparison helped confirm this is definitely a mechanical rather than electrical problem with the window regulator motor assembly.
