Buick Lucerne Brake Switch Causing Multiple Errors

Looking for advice on what seems like a brake switch electrical issue in my 2006 Buick Lucerne (51k km). My dashboard is showing multiple errors including brake light failure warnings, plus error messages pop up in the infotainment system. Had a bad experience with my last mechanic, so wondering if anyone has dealt with similar symptoms? Would a brake light switch replacement likely fix these issues, or should I be looking at other parts of the brake system?

Had a similar electrical issue on my 2009 Buick LaCrosse last winter. The multiple warning messages pointed to a faulty brake light switch, which turned out to be causing cascade failures in the system communications. The brake light switch serves both the physical brake lights and sends signals to various control modules. Initially thought it was just a tail light problem, but the diagnostic revealed the brake switch was sending incorrect signals to both the lighting system and vehicle computer. The repair involved replacing the brake light switch assembly and recalibrating the brake system sensors. This was a serious issue requiring immediate attention, as faulty switch signals can affect various safety systems. In my case, the problem also triggered ABS and stability control warnings. The fix restored proper function to all systems, including the infotainment and dashboard warnings. Would strongly recommend having this checked by a qualified technician, as brake system electrical issues can compromise several safety features. The multiple error messages you describe match the classic symptoms of a failing brake light switch.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the brake light switch repair. Im currently dealing with the same warnings in my 2006 Lucerne. The automotive switch replacement sounds like the right fix based on those symptoms. Mind sharing what the repair ended up costing you? Also curious if youve had any electrical issues pop up since getting it fixed.

Actually turned out to be a much simpler fix than expected. When I took it to the mechanic, they discovered the brake light switch was perfectly fine, it just needed a quick adjustment. The switch was slightly out of alignment due to normal wear and tear of the brake pedal assembly. The technician realigned the automotive switch to restore proper contact, and all those warning messages disappeared immediately. Since this was basically correcting a user-caused issue rather than replacing parts, they didnt even charge for the service. No electrical issues have popped up since then. The brake system has been working flawlessly for months now, with no warning lights or error messages. Just goes to show that sometimes what seems like a major electrical issue can have a straightforward solution. The key takeaway is to have a qualified tech check the brake light switch positioning before assuming it needs replacement. Could save you some unnecessary repair costs.

Thanks everyone for the helpful advice. I finally got my vehicle fixed last week and wanted to share how it went. Took it to a new mechanic who specializes in electrical systems. They did a full diagnostic and found the brake switch was actually fine, turned out the issue was a corroded connector in the brake pedal wiring harness. The repair was pretty straightforward. They cleaned the connection points, applied dielectric grease, and properly secured the wiring. Total cost was reasonable at about 1 hour of labor. All the warning lights cleared up immediately and the brake system is working perfectly now. Glad I got a second opinion rather than jumping straight to replacing parts. Vehicle safety is critical but sometimes these electrical gremlins have simple fixes. No error messages or weird behavior from the infotainment system since the repair. Really appreciate all the suggestions that helped point me in the right direction.
