BMW XM Bluetooth Calling System Goes Silent, Fix Needed

Hey all! Having trouble with my 2022 BMW XM (128,468 km, gas engine). The hands-free system completely stopped working, can't make calls anymore and when I try, the other mechanic can't hear me at all. The car's also showing an error code for this issue. Had a not-so-great experience with my previous mechanic, so I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar microphone/hands-free problems in their BMW? Would appreciate hearing about your experiences and recommendations for fixing this. Thanks in advance!

I had a similar issue with my 2019 BMW M850i last year. The infotainment system completely shut down the hands-free function, showing the same symptoms, no voice transmission during calls. Took it to the shop and turns out it wasn't just the microphone. The main control module for the infotainment system was defective and needed replacement. The technician mentioned it's actually a known issue in some units. They had to reprogram the entire system after installing the new module. It was classified as a major repair since it involved the car's central electronics. The system has been working flawlessly since the fix, no connection drops or audio issues. I'd definitely recommend getting it checked by an authorized dealer since they have the proper diagnostic tools for these complex electronic systems. Stay away from general repair shops for this one, these modern infotainment systems require specific BMW software to properly diagnose and fix.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! This definitely helps, as it sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Really good to know about the control module, I had a feeling it might be more than just the mic itself. Hey, if you don't mind me asking, do you remember roughly how much the repair set you back? Also, has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other quirks with the system?

Hey there! Happy to give you an update on my situation. After getting it fixed, I can tell you it cost me 815 € to sort out that infotainment system issue. I know it sounds steep, but honestly, it was worth every penny. The best part? Everything's been working perfectly since the repair! The hands-free system is actually better than ever, crystal clear calls, no dropouts, nothing. Such a relief after dealing with that frustrating mic problem. I can finally make calls without having to shout or pull over! It's been about a year now since I got it fixed, and I haven't noticed any other weird issues with the system. The whole infotainment setup in my M850i is running as smooth as butter. Definitely was the right call to get it properly sorted at the dealer rather than trying any quick fixes. Just make sure you get it done at an authorized place, they really do know their stuff when it comes to these fancy electronic systems. Trust me, you don't want to mess around with cheaper alternatives when it comes to BMW's tech.

Thanks for all those details! I took your advice and went to an authorized dealer yesterday. You were spot on, turns out my control module was acting up too! The diagnostic showed pretty much the same issue you had. The repair cost was similar to what you paid, around 800€. Not cheap, but the service was totally worth it. The technician walked me through everything they were doing and even showed me the faulty module. Just drove back home making some calls, and wow, what a difference! The sound is crystal clear now, and everyone can hear me perfectly. No more awkward "Can you hear me?" moments! Really glad I didn't try to cut corners with a cheaper fix. Thanks again for steering me in the right direction with this. Sometimes paying a bit more upfront saves a lot of headaches later. Really appreciate your help with this whole situation!
