Hey, thanks so much for sharing your experience! That's really helpful info about the voltage regulator and control module, I had no idea those could cause transmission problems. Do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other transmission quirks? Really appreciate your detailed response. I'm definitely going to look into shops specializing in European cars now.

Hey again! Yes, happy to give you an update. I actually just got my X5 back from the mechanic last month where they sorted out that electrical problem I mentioned. The total bill came to 240 € for fixing the undervoltage issue, not too bad considering what I was worried it might cost! Since they fixed it, the transmission's been working like a charm. The shifts are super smooth now, no more warning lights, and that annoying emergency mode is completely gone. Turned out the transmission fluid wasn't actually worn out at all, it was just that electrical problem messing with everything. Tell you what, getting it fixed at a European car specialist was definitely the right call. They knew exactly what to look for and didn't waste time testing things that weren't the issue. My X5's running better than ever now. Seriously, don't stress too much about it, once they sort out the electrical stuff, you'll probably find your X6 drives like new again. Let me know how it goes when you get yours checked out!

Thanks for checking back in! Actually, I just got my X6 back from the mechanic yesterday and wanted to give you an update. Funny enough, it was also an electrical issue, faulty wiring harness that was causing the transmission to act up. The repair cost me around 300 in total, which honestly wasn't as bad as I'd feared. The mechanic I found was great, super transparent about everything they were doing. They even showed me the worn-out wiring that was causing all the trouble. Really glad I followed your advice about going to a European car specialist. Car's running perfectly now, no more jerky shifts or warning lights. Such a relief! Thanks again for helping me avoid what could've been a much more expensive transmission rebuild. You really saved me from making the wrong assumptions about it just being old fluid. Really appreciate all your help with this!

Hey there. I had a similar issue with my 2012 BMW X5 35i last year. The symptoms you're describing remind me exactly of what I experienced, rough shifts, limp mode, and transmission warning. Initially thought it was just the fluid too, but turned out to be an electrical problem. The mechanic found that the transmission control module was getting undervoltage due to a failing battery and voltage regulator. This was causing the transmission to go into a protective mode. The fix wasn't just a simple fluid change, they had to replace the voltage regulator and battery, then reprogram the transmission control module. It was a serious repair that took a couple of days, but it completely resolved the shifting issues. Since you mentioned having trust issues with mechanics, I'd suggest getting it properly diagnosed at a shop that specializes in European cars. These transmissions are pretty complex, and incorrect diagnosis can lead to unnecessary repairs. Hope this helps with your decision making.
