Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! That sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Good to know it wasn't something super major in your case. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been working smoothly since they fixed it? I'm trying to get a sense of what I might be looking at cost-wise and whether it's likely to be a lasting fix. Really appreciate the help!

Hey there! Just wanted to follow up, yes, everything has been working perfectly since I got it fixed! The steering is smooth as butter now, no more shaking or heavy feeling. Complete night and day difference. The repair was actually pretty reasonable, ended up paying 95 € to fix the faulty cable connection. Turns out it was just a bad electrical connector like I suspected. Really glad I didn't put it off any longer, as it could've led to bigger issues down the road. My mechanic said these electrical gremlins are pretty common in modern BMWs, but they're usually straightforward to fix once you know what you're looking for. Since the repair three weeks ago, I haven't had a single issue with the power steering. The car handles just like new again. If your symptoms are similar to what I experienced, you might be looking at the same kind of repair. Hope this helps give you a better idea of what to expect! Let me know if you need any other info about my experience with this.

Thanks a lot for all the detailed info! I finally got the courage to take my car to a new mechanic yesterday. You were spot on, it was an electrical issue with the power steering module. The connector was corroded and needed cleaning and replacement, just like in your case. They also topped up the power steering fluid since it was a bit low. The whole thing cost me around 120 bucks and took about 3 hours to fix. The mechanic was great, showed me exactly what was wrong and explained everything clearly. Such a relief it wasn't something major! Took it for a test drive afterward and wow, what a difference! The steering is super smooth now, no more shaking or heavy feeling. Just like you said, night and day difference. Really glad I didn't wait any longer to get it fixed. Thanks again for sharing your experience. It really helped me feel more confident about getting it checked out. Definitely the right call to find a new mechanic too. Would've been kicking myself if I'd let this turn into a bigger problem!

I had a similar issue with my 2019 BMW X4 last month. The power steering started acting up, heavy steering, vibrations, and that unsafe feeling while turning. Had multiple error codes related to the power steering system. Turned out it was a faulty electrical connection at the power steering control module. The connector had corroded and wasn't making proper contact. While checking this, the mechanic also found that some power steering fluid had leaked around the seals. It wasn't a catastrophic problem, but definitely needed immediate attention for safety reasons. The repair involved cleaning the connections, replacing the connector, and fixing the fluid leak. The steering went back to normal right after. You should get it checked soon, power steering issues can become dangerous if left unattended. I'd suggest finding a shop that specializes in BMW electrical systems since these problems often stem from electrical connections rather than mechanical failures. It took about half a day to diagnose and fix at my regular BMW specialist garage. Pretty straightforward job for someone who knows what they're doing.
