Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful. I'm curious, do you remember roughly how much the whole repair set you back? I'm trying to budget for this and wondering if any other issues popped up since you had it fixed? Unfortunately, my usual mechanic hasn't been great lately, so I'm a bit worried about the whole thing.

Hey again! Happy to give you an update. Since getting it fixed at the BMW workshop, the lateral acceleration sensor issue has been completely resolved, no more ABS warning lights at all! The total cost was 1000 € for replacing the defective control unit and reprogramming everything. I know it wasn't cheap, but honestly, it was worth every penny to have it done properly. My X3 has been running perfectly since then, no warning lights, no stability control issues, nothing. The ABS works exactly as it should now. I totally get your concern about mechanic trust issues. That's exactly why I went with the certified workshop even though it cost more. These systems are too important to risk having them fixed by someone who might not know exactly what they're doing. It's been about a month now, and I'm really glad I made that choice. If you're worried about your usual mechanic, I'd definitely recommend finding a certified BMW specialist for this particular job. The peace of mind alone is worth it, especially when it comes to safety systems like ABS.

Just got back from the mechanic today, what an experience! Went to a certified BMW workshop like you suggested, and I'm so glad I did. They found that my issue was actually pretty similar to yours. The whole ABS control module needed replacement, not just the sensor. The repair cost was a bit higher than I expected, around 1200 € including parts and labor, but at least they knew exactly what they were doing. The mechanic took time to explain everything and even showed me the old parts. They did a complete system check while they were at it and thankfully found no other issues. The car's running beautifully now, no more warning lights, and the ABS is working perfectly. Really appreciate your advice about going to a certified shop. It definitely restored my confidence in getting professional repairs done. Think I've finally found a reliable mechanic I can trust. What a relief to have this sorted out properly!

I had a similar issue with my 2014 BMW X3 35i last month. The ABS warning light was constantly on, and the diagnostic also pointed to the lateral acceleration sensor. My mechanic found that the control unit was defective and needed replacement, it wasn't just the sensor itself. This was actually quite serious because it affected not only the ABS but also the stability control system. Had it fixed at a certified BMW workshop. From what I understand, these sensors are integrated with the ABS control module, and when they fail, it's usually the whole unit that needs replacement. In my case, they also had to reprogram the new unit to sync with the car's systems. The repair was definitely not a DIY job, and I'd strongly suggest going to a certified BMW technician who has experience with these specific systems. Worth noting that if left unaddressed, it can compromise your vehicle's safety systems.
