Thanks for sharing! That really helps since it sounds exactly like what I'm experiencing with my X4. I'm relieved to hear it might be something relatively simple like battery connections rather than a major engine issue. Do you remember roughly how much they charged you for fixing those connections? Also, has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other electrical quirks?

Hey there! Happy to give you an update. The repair cost me 155 € to fix those battery cable connections, and honestly, it was money well spent. Since getting it sorted at the mechanic, my X3 has been running like a dream, no more Engine Control Malfunction warnings or starting issues at all. I haven't noticed any electrical quirks whatsoever since the fix. The car starts right up every time now, even on those chilly mornings when it used to give me trouble. It's such a relief not having to worry about whether the car will start or not anymore. Just to add, getting those battery connections sorted sooner rather than later was definitely the right call. Apparently, letting it go could've caused bigger problems down the line with other electrical systems in the car. These modern BMWs are pretty sensitive to electrical issues. Let me know how it goes with yours! Always happy to share experiences with fellow BMW owners.

Just wanted to update everyone! Finally got my X4 checked out after hearing about your experiences. Turns out you were spot on, it was battery-related issues. The mechanic I found was fantastic and straightforward. They discovered some nasty corrosion on the terminals and a few loose connections. The repair bill came to around €180, which included a thorough cleaning and securing all connections properly. They even did a full electrical system check just to be safe. Much better than my last mechanic who tried convincing me I needed a whole new engine control unit! Car's running beautifully now, starts first time, every time. No more check engine lights or cold morning struggles. Such a relief it wasn't something more serious. Really appreciate everyone's help in pointing me in the right direction. Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best ones!

I had a similar issue with my 2018 BMW X3 last month. The symptoms were identical, difficult starts and occasional complete failure to turn over, particularly in cold weather. Took it to the garage and they found corroded battery terminals with loose connections. The cables weren't properly secured, causing intermittent power delivery to the starter. This was affecting the engine control module readings too, triggering the check engine light. The fix wasn't complex, they cleaned the terminals, replaced the corroded connectors, and properly secured all battery cables. They also tested the battery itself, which was still good. While not a serious issue, ignoring it could have eventually led to electrical system damage. Since the repair, my X3 starts perfectly every time. Would recommend getting those battery connections checked first before looking into more complex issues. Bad connections can mimic more serious electrical problems.
