Thanks for sharing your experience! That sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. I'm relieved to hear it was fixable, though it seems like quite an involved repair. Would you mind sharing how much you ended up paying for the whole job? Also, has everything been working smoothly since the repair, or have you noticed any other brake-related issues popping up? I want to make sure I budget properly and know what to expect long-term.

Hey again! Happy to give you an update! The repair cost me 505 € to fix the faulty electric motor in the brake caliper, and I'm glad to report it was worth every penny. Since getting it sorted, the electronic parking brake has been working flawlessly, no more warning lights or issues with the hill assist feature. Everything's been running perfectly smooth for the past year. No new brake problems or related issues have cropped up since the repair. The mechanic did a thorough job with the recalibration, and all the electronic systems are working just as they should. I know the cost might seem steep, but considering it's a safety-critical system, I'd say it's money well spent. Plus, it's nice not having to worry about parking on hills anymore or dealing with those annoying warning messages on the dash! I reckon you'll have the same positive outcome once you get yours fixed. Just make sure you get a proper BMW specialist to do the work, it makes all the difference with these electronic systems. Let me know if you need any other info!

Thanks for all the details! I bit the bullet and took my X3 to a BMW specialist yesterday. You won't believe it, my issue was nearly identical to yours. The mechanic found water damage in the brake actuator, and they had to replace the whole unit. The total came to 520 €, pretty close to what you paid. Theyaged to fix everything in one day, and I'm happy to report all systems are back to normal. The electronic parking brake works perfectly now, and those annoying warning lights are finally gone! The hill assist is working great too. Really appreciate your help with this. Having your experience as a reference made me feel much more confident about getting it fixed. Now I can finally park without worrying about the car rolling away! Guess I'll be more mindful about protecting those electronic components from moisture in the future. Thanks again for sharing your story, it really helped me make the right decision!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2018 BMW X4 last year. The electronic parking brake completely failed, along with the hill assist. The root cause turned out to be a defective electric motor in the brake caliper. When I took it to the garage, they diagnosed multiple error codes related to the brake system. The mechanic found that moisture had gotten into the electric motor unit, causing corrosion and eventual failure. They had to replace the entire brake actuator unit on the rear caliper. It was definitely a serious repair since it affected multiple safety systems. The job took about 4-5 hours because they needed to recalibrate the whole brake system after replacing the parts. Worth noting, this isn't something you want to postpone fixing, as it affects critical safety features. The car shouldn't be parked on hills until it's resolved. Best to get it checked at a shop that specializes in BMW electronics. Hope this helps.
