BMW X2 Owners Report Stalling and Throttle Response Issues

Hi all! Having trouble with my 2023 BMW X2 (gas engine). The car's been acting up with delayed throttle response, rough idling, unusual stalls, and jerky acceleration, check engine light is also on. I suspect it might be the ignition coil, but wanted to hear from anyone who's dealt with similar symptoms. Has anyone had this fixed? What was the actual problem and repair experience like? Looking for real-world insights before heading to the workshop.

Hey there! I'm a hobbyist with some car maintenance experience. I had almost identical issues with my 2021 BMW X1 last summer. The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I dealt with. Initially suspected the ignition coil too, but turned out it was just a faulty wiring connection to the throttle position sensor. The workshop found a damaged cable and connector that were causing intermittent signals. Got it fixed for about 95 Euro, much cheaper than I expected! Would definitely recommend getting it checked soon though, as these symptoms can get worse. The repair was pretty quick, took about 2 hours in total. Could you share if you're noticing these issues more during cold starts or after the engine's warmed up? Also, does the check engine light stay on constantly or flicker? These details would help provide better insights into your specific case. Btw, love the X2! I actually considered getting one before going with my X1.

Thanks for the detailed response! My X2 (176306 KM) is showing these symptoms pretty consistently, regardless of engine temperature. The check engine light stays on permanently since it first appeared. Had my latest service just two weeks ago but these issues started right after. After reading your experience, I'm a bit relieved it might not be as serious as I thought. I'll definitely get those sensors and wiring checked out first before jumping to conclusions about the ignition coil. Really appreciate the heads-up about the potential wiring issues, that's not something I would've considered initially. Planning to take it to the workshop tomorrow morning. Will update the thread once I know what's actually causing the problem. Thanks again for sharing your experience!

Thanks for the update! Yeah, having these issues right after a service is quite suspicious, makes me wonder if something got knocked loose during the maintenance work. When I had my X1 fixed, I actually learned that post-service issues are more common than we think. The timing of your problems (right after service) actually reminds me exactly of what happened with my X1 last year. Mine started acting up about a week after routine maintenance, and it turned out that during the service, one of the techs had accidentally pinched a wire while reinstalling some components. Since you've got similar symptoms staying constant (like mine did) and the light's permanently on, I'm even more convinced it could be wiring-related. When they fixed my car, the mechanic showed me how even slightly damaged wiring can cause all these weird symptoms, it's crazy how such a small thing can affect the whole system. Quick tip from my experience, ask them to specifically check any wiring that might have been disturbed during your recent service. Could save you some diagnostic time. Let us know what they find, I'm really curious if it's similar to what I dealt with!

Thanks so much for that valuable tip! You're right, the timing with the recent service does seem more than coincidental now that you mention it. It's actually quite reassuring to hear someone else had a similar experience with a relatively simple fix. I've just called the workshop and specifically mentioned checking the wiring that might have been disturbed during the recent service, just as you suggested. They seemed to take that possibility seriously and scheduled me in for first thing tomorrow. It's actually made me feel a lot more confident going in with this specific angle to investigate, rather than just assuming it's a major component failure. I'll definitely post an update once it's sorted, really appreciate you sharing your experience. It's exactly the kind of real-world insight I was hoping for when I posted here!

Before considering changing the fuel pump or high-pressure pump, check the fuel pressure to ensure it's within the manufacturer's specifications. This will help determine if there's an issue with the fuel delivery system. If the pressure is low, it could indicate a problem with the pump. Also, inspect the fuel filter for any blockages that might be affecting performance. Let me know how it goes or if you have any further questions!
