BMW iX2 Owners Report Power Loss & Jerking Issues

Hey all. Having trouble with my 2024 BMW iX2 electric. Engine jerks, power is significantly reduced, and the system shows a fault code. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their iX2? Would really appreciate hearing about your repair experiences and what exactly the workshop did to fix it. Looking to get some insight before taking it in.

Hey! I have some experience working on EVs and went through something very similar with my 2022 BMW iX3 (loved that car before upgrading to an iX4). My iX3 showed the exact same symptoms after I had it chip-tuned at a third-party shop. The power loss and jerking were super scary. Took it to the official dealer, they found that the unofficial tuning messed with the power management system. Cost me 180 Euro to get it back to factory settings and fix the ECU. Before I can help more specifically, could you tell me if you've had any recent modifications done to the car? Also, which fault code are you getting? That would help narrow down if we're dealing with the same issue. My tip: If it's tuning-related like mine was, stick to authorized service centers for these EVs. The powertrain is pretty complex and sensitive to modifications.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Actually, this is a completely stock vehicle with no mods whatsoever. Just had it serviced last month at 114,872 KM. The fault code I'm getting is P0A0F. The jerking usually happens when I'm accelerating from a complete stop. Initially thought it might be related to the recent software update, but the symptoms started before that. Really hoping it's not the powertrain, the car's my daily driver and I need it sorted quickly.

Ah, that P0A0F code on your iX2, I totally get your concern! When I had my iX3, I initially thought my issues were software-related too, but turned out it wasn't that simple. Looking at your case, it's quite different from what I experienced. Since your car is stock and recently serviced, I'd bet it's related to the hybrid control module or the engine control module communication. That P0A0F usually points to system voltage issues, could be the battery management system acting up. In my case, even though the root cause was different (that tuning mess I mentioned), the jerking during acceleration felt exactly like what you're describing. The difference is that mine threw a different fault code. Here's what I'd suggest based on my experience: Don't wait on this one. With these symptoms and that specific code, it could potentially get worse. Get it to the dealer ASAP, you definitely want someone who knows these new BMW EVs inside out. When I finally got mine looked at, waiting only made things more complicated. Quick question, have you noticed any changes in your charging behavior or battery range lately? This might help pinpoint if it's primarily a battery management issue.

Thanks for the detailed response and advice! Yeah, now that you mention it, I have noticed the range isn't quite what it used to be, probably dropped about 15% in the last couple weeks. You're right about not waiting, just called the dealer and managed to get an appointment for tomorrow morning. They mentioned they've seen a few similar cases recently, so fingers crossed it's a known issue with a straightforward fix. Really appreciate you taking the time to help me understand what might be going on. It's definitely less stressful going in with some background knowledge about what they might find. I'll update the thread once I know what's actually causing it, might help others who run into the same problem.
