BMW i4 ASC/ABS Failure + Acceleration Issues Solved

Hey all! My 2021 BMW i4 (electric) with about 145k km is acting up, and I need some advice. The ASC and ABS are completely dead, plus I'm getting nasty jerking during acceleration. Computer's showing some error codes too. Last mechanic visit wasn't great, so I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar issues on their i4? What was the cause, and how much did repairs cost? Also, any recommendations on dealing with these problems would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi there! I had a similar issue with my 2018 BMW iX3 last year. The ASC relay was indeed defective, causing both ASC and ABS systems to fail. The jerking during acceleration is a classic symptom, experienced that too and it was quite concerning. The problem turned out to be more serious than initially thought. My mechanic found that the relay failure had caused some additional strain on the regenerative braking system. The repair involved replacing the ASC module and recalibrating several electronic systems to get everything working properly again. While it seems daunting, it's definitely not something you want to ignore or postpone fixing. These safety systems are crucial, especially in an electric vehicle where power delivery and braking are so integrated. I'd strongly suggest finding a certified BMW EV specialist for this repair. In my case, the fix lasted about two days at the shop, but the car has been running perfectly since then. No more jerking or warning lights. Best of luck with your repair.

Hi again! Thanks so much for sharing your experience with the ASC/ABS issues. Your situation sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Quick question, would you mind sharing what the final repair bill came to? Also curious if you've had any other electrical gremlins pop up since getting it fixed? Really helps to know what I might be in for! Thanks a bunch!

Hey there! Just wanted to follow up, good news actually! After seeing the mechanic, they sorted out my ASC issue completely. Turned out it was just the ASC relay that was defective, like I suspected. The fix was pretty straightforward and only cost me 90 € for parts and labor. Way less painful than I initially feared! My iX3 has been running perfectly since the repair, no electrical issues or any other problems have shown up. The jerking during acceleration is completely gone, and all the warning lights have stayed off. The car feels just like new again. I'm really glad I got it fixed when I did, rather than letting it drag on. These BMWs are solid cars when properly maintained, and sometimes it's just a simple fix that makes all the difference. Hope this helps give you a better idea of what you might be looking at cost-wise. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks for all the details! Just got back from a certified EV mechanic, and wow, what a difference from my last experience! The diagnostic process was super thorough, and they found similar issues to what you mentioned. The ASC relay was indeed the culprit, plus they spotted a minor wiring issue that was contributing to the jerking. The total came to a bit more than yours, around 150 for parts and labor. But honestly, I'm just relieved it wasn't worse. The car's running like a dream now, smooth acceleration, all warning lights are off, and the braking system feels way more responsive. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it gave me the confidence to get this sorted properly instead of putting it off. Learned my lesson about sticking with certified EV specialists too. They really know their stuff when it comes to these high-tech systems. Thanks again for all your help!
