Thanks for the detailed response! I was also leaning towards the transmission fluid initially, but your electrical system theory makes sense. My car's at 127245 KM and just had its service two months back. No recent battery changes, but now that you mention it, I've noticed my infotainment system acting a bit weird lately, unusual restarts and such. I'll definitely get those error codes checked. The workshop's booked for next week, so I'll keep you posted on what they find. Really hoping it's just an electrical gremlin like in your case rather than a full transmission issue!

Hey again! Thanks for getting back with those details. The infotainment glitches you mentioned definitely ring a bell, that's exactly how mine started acting up before the transmission issues kicked in. When my 7 Series had this problem, those unusual infotainment restarts were actually the first warning sign I completely missed. After dealing with my case, I learned these BMWs are super sensitive to voltage fluctuations. My mechanic explained that when the voltage isn't stable, the transmission control module goes into a protective mode, which explains the limp mode and weird shifting patterns we both experienced. Since your mileage is pretty close to what mine was (I was at about 115000 KM when this happened), and you're seeing similar symptoms, I'm even more convinced it's electrical. Would bet good money it's the same issue I had. The funny thing is, I spent days worrying about transmission fluid and potential transmission rebuilds before finding out it was just a voltage regulator playing up! Keep us posted about what the workshop finds next week. If it turns out to be the same problem, the fix is relatively straightforward and won't break the bank. At least that's way better than a transmission rebuild, right?

What a relief to hear your experience matches mine so closely! You've definitely helped calm my nerves about this whole situation. I was honestly dreading a massive repair bill for a transmission rebuild, but this electrical theory makes total sense, especially with those infotainment issues I've been having. It's funny how we both immediately jumped to transmission fluid problems, guess that's the obvious suspect with these symptoms! I've just checked my warranty paperwork, and there's a chance this might even be covered if it's electrical. Will definitely come back to update you after the workshop visit next week. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience, it's really helped me understand what might be going on with my 8 Series. Here's hoping for a simple voltage regulator fix like yours!

Hey there! I've got some experience with BMWs and had a similar issue with my 2021 BMW 7 Series diesel last year. I've been working on cars as a hobby for several years, and this one really got me worried at first. Had the exact same symptoms, jerky shifts, warning lights, and the dreaded limp mode. Took it to my trusted workshop thinking it was the transmission fluid too, but turned out to be an undervoltage issue affecting the transmission control module. Cost me about 240 Euro to fix. Before jumping to conclusions, could you share: Any error codes you're getting? Has the battery been replaced recently? Did you notice any electrical issues before this started? BTW, love the 8 Series! The 7 Series is basically its comfier cousin, so a lot of the electronics are similar. Let me know these details, and I might be able to help more specifically.
