Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful. Mine sounds exactly like what you described, even down to the stalling issue. Been worried it might be something major, but hearing about your fuse problem gives me hope it's not too serious. Mind if I ask how much the repair set you back? Also, has everything stayed working properly since the fix, or have you noticed any other quirks pop up?

Hey again! Just to update you, yes, everything's been working perfectly since I got it fixed! The total repair was actually pretty reasonable, came to 52€ for replacing the fuse and cleaning up the corroded connections. Money well spent if you ask me. Haven't had a single problem with the fuel gauge or stalling since then, it's been running like a dream. The fuel level sensor is working exactly as it should now, and the check engine light hasn't made another appearance. Honestly, such a relief it wasn't anything more serious. Your symptoms really do sound identical to what I dealt with. Definitely worth checking out those fuses first before worrying about bigger issues. My BMW 5 Series is still going strong, and it's nice not having to guess how much fuel I've got left anymore! Let me know how you get on when you get it looked at. Always interested to hear if it turns out to be the same problem.

Thank you so much for all the advice, everyone! Just wanted to update you on what happened with my BMW. Finally got it checked out today, and you were right about the fuse issue! The mechanic I found was great, really transparent about everything. Turned out my problem was slightly different though. The fuel pump wiring harness had some corrosion and was causing intermittent connections. They replaced the wiring, cleaned up all the connections, and installed a new fuse as a precaution. Total bill came to 175 for parts and labor, bit more than your repair but still way better than what I was fearing. The car's running perfectly now, no more stalling, fuel gauge is working properly, and that pesky check engine light is finally off! Really glad I asked here before assuming the worst. Saved me from unnecessary stress and probably some money too. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!

Hey there! I had similar symptoms with my 2012 BMW 5 Series diesel last year. The stalling at idle and stuck fuel gauge turned out to be a blown fuse in the fuel pump circuit, which was causing the sensor to malfunction. The check engine light came on because the system wasn't getting correct fuel level readings. Took it to the garage where they diagnosed a corroded fuse holder that had damaged the fuse. They replaced both the fuse and holder, cleaned the connections, and checked the entire fuel pump system. Wasn't a major repair, but leaving it unfixed could have led to fuel pump failure, which would've been much more serious. Been running smooth since the fix, no more stalling or gauge issues. If your symptoms match, might want to have them check the fuse box first before looking at more complex problems.
