BMW 4 Series Error Messages, Check System Readiness Fix

Hey car enthusiasts, Need advice on my 2023 BMW 4 diesel. Getting error messages in both error memory and speedometer display. Think it might be related to an incomplete system readiness check. Has anyone dealt with similar issues? What was the actual problem and how did your mechanic resolve it? Looking for real repair experiences before taking it to the shop.

Hey there! I have some experience working on BMWs. Actually, I had a similar issue with my 2021 BMW 3 Series diesel (I switched from that to a BMW 5 Series later). When I saw those error messages, I first panicked a bit! But since I had just gotten an OBD2 diagnostic scan done, the technician explained that sometimes these errors pop up temporarily when the system hasn't completed its full readiness cycle. In my case, they all cleared up after driving normally for about 50-60 miles. Before I can suggest anything specific though, could you tell us: Which exact error messages you're seeing? Has there been any recent work done on the car? Are you noticing any changes in how the car drives? This would help me understand if you're dealing with the same thing I experienced or if it might be something else.

Thanks for the detailed response! Actually, I just had my service done last week at 152707 KM, and the errors started showing up right after. The main error message is "System Check Incomplete" and there's a yellow warning light on the dash. The car drives fine though, no performance issues or weird noises. My biggest concern is that these messages keep popping up even after regular driving. I was hoping it would resolve itself like in your case, but it's been a week now. Think I should try clearing the codes and see if they come back, or just take it straight to a specialist?

Hey again! Thanks for those extra details about your BMW 4. You know what? Your situation now sounds a bit different from what I experienced with my old 3 Series. While mine cleared up after some driving, the fact that yours started right after service and hasn't cleared in a week is definitely worth looking into. From my experience (and what happened with my car later on), when error messages persist after service, it often means something wasn't reset properly during the maintenance work. When I had my first BMW serviced, I actually had to go back because they forgot to reset some sensors after the oil change. Here's what I'd suggest based on what happened with my car: don't bother clearing the codes yourself just yet. Since this started right after your service, I'd take it back to where they did the work. They should check it for free since it's potentially related to their recent service. When I went back, it turned out they needed to properly initialize a sensor they'd worked on, took them about 15 minutes to fix. If they claim it's not related to their work, then yeah, might be time to see a BMW specialist. But start with the service center first, no point paying extra if it's their oversight, right?

Thanks so much for that insight! You're probably right about it being connected to the recent service. Come to think of it, they did mention something about sensor calibration during the maintenance, but I didn't think much of it at the time. I'll definitely take it back to them first before trying anything else or spending money at another shop. It's really helpful to hear about your similar experience with the sensor reset issue. Makes me feel a bit better knowing it might just be something simple like that rather than a major problem. I'll give them a call tomorrow and explain the situation. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, exactly the kind of real-world advice I was hoping for! I'll update the thread once I get it sorted, might help someone else with the same issue down the line. Thanks again for helping me figure out the best approach!
