BMW 4 Series Diesel Running Rough, Fuel System Issues?

Thanks for sharing your experience! My BMW just hit 99253 KM and had its last service about 2 months ago. Really good to know it might just be a wiring issue, definitely less scary than what I was imagining! Actually, now that you mention it, I've noticed the jerking gets worse right after I fill up the tank. I'll definitely check the warranty situation before heading to the workshop. A 95 euro fix would be fantastic compared to a full sensor replacement. Fingers crossed it's something similar to what you experienced!

Hey again! Yeah, that detail about the jerking getting worse after refueling really rings a bell, that's exactly what happened with my 3 Series too! When you mentioned the 99253 KM, that's pretty close to where mine started acting up (I was around 95000 KM). The symptoms being worse after refueling is actually a pretty typical sign of fuel pressure related issues. In my case, the loose connection was causing inconsistent readings, which made the engine management system go a bit crazy. Just wanted to add, after getting it fixed, I learned it's worth checking the connections around the fuel system every service. Been doing that for the past two years and haven't had any issues since. My mechanic showed me that these connectors can get corroded over time, especially in the fuel area. Quick question, have you noticed any difference in how it runs when the tank is half full versus completely full? With mine, it was definitely more noticeable with a full tank. If it's the same issue, you might be looking at a similar quick fix. Keep us posted on what you find out!

Really appreciate all this detailed info! That's super interesting about the correlation between fuel levels and the problem, I actually have noticed it runs a bit smoother when the tank isn't completely full. I hadn't thought to pay attention to that detail before. It's really reassuring to hear that your fix was relatively straightforward and that the mileage matches up so closely with my situation. I've already called my dealer to check the warranty status, and I'll definitely mention these symptoms and the potential wiring issue when I take it in. Will also ask them about regular connection checks during future services, seems like a smart preventative measure! Thanks again for all your help, it's made me feel much more confident about getting this sorted out!

I have some experience working with BMWs. Had a similar issue with my 2012 BMW 3 Series diesel. The symptoms you're describing sound very familiar. My car was doing exactly the same, rough running, stalling, jerking. Took it to my workshop and turned out to be a faulty cable connection to the fuel pressure sensor. The fix wasn't too complex, they replaced the wiring and connector, cost me 95 Euro. Car's been running smoothly since then. What's the mileage on your 4 Series? Also, have you noticed any specific conditions when the problems get worse (like cold starts or after refueling)? Might help pinpoint the exact issue. Just a tip, might be worth checking if it's still under any extended warranty before heading to the workshop. The 3 and 4 Series share quite a few components, so these issues tend to be similar.
